Best home organizing books/magazines?

My home is a constant mess and I'm finally admitting that I need help.  Can any of you recommend your favorite books/magazines with some great tips and ideas on how to get (and stay!) organized?  Thanks!

  • Real Simple is wonderful.  The magazine is expensive, but their website is free!

I LOVE Real Simple. I'd use that one, too.

  • agree - Real Simple is great :)
  • I love Real Simple too! I just got a subscription so it actually is pretty cheap for me. There is just something about sitting on the couch flipping through a magazine that I really enjoy...their website does have good cleaning guides though.

     Has anyone used flylady.net?

  • I really like House Works by Cythia Townley Ewer as a good starting book. It has sample daily cleaning lists, weekly cleaning lists, ideas on how to stay organized, decluttering and menu planning.

You can also check out her website Organizedhome.com

  • Another vote for Real Simple. They actually have books you can buy on cleaning and organizing (instead of just the magazine). I have one and I live by it!

I wonder if Prince William and Kate are registered at Target?
  • Agree!  Real Simple!  I also really enjoy certain issues of Martha Stewart Living... they do features like "Tasks that should be done daily, weekly, monthly, every 6 mos, once a year"... I think the more recent issues are getting away from the cleaning advice... so maybe check out your local library for some back issues.  I think the one I liked the most was a New Year's issue from 2 years ago.
  • I use FlyLady. My house is a lot better than it was, though I'm not following her system 100%.
  • Love Real Simple like the pp's. Just wanted to say to keep an eye on Amazon because around November/December they do Christmas specials and I got a subscription for $5 first year and $12 to renew!

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over!
  • I've never tried Real Simple but sounds like I need to lol. I really like Better Homes and Gardens. They have tons of decorating and recipes and everything else but they always have good cleaning and organizing tips. One of my favorite magazines! Plus the website is free BHG.com

  • I agree with everyone else, Real Simple is great. Most of their articles are online in their entirety for free.

As far as books go I really recommend "Unclutter your life in 1 week" by Erin Rooney Doland. Before spending the money on the book though, browse through her blog at http://unclutterer.com. A lot of great tips and organization systems and recommendations on that site!
