Re: WWYD Clicky poll

  • I voted to find a cheap one to get by for now.

I would not add something to your credit right now if you plan on purchasing a home in the next year or so.

  • I would try one of the "scratch & dent" places, get an inexpensive dryer, but then plan on leaving it when you sell.  You can probably get a decent dryer for like $200.  It wouldn't be worth it to take it with you when you leave.

  • I'd get just a dryer. And I'd look on craigslist and stuff first. People sell their old ones when they upgrade all the time.

But, we're also doing Dave Ramsey's cash budgeting system to get rid of all of our debt, so there is no way we would decide to take out a new loan or credit card right now unless there was no other possible option.

  • I'd just get a cheap dryer. I wouldn't get new appliances if I didn't have cash to pay for them.

Also, if you're planning to sell your house in a year or so, it might not even be worth it to take new appliances with you. What if your next home already has new or higher-end laundry appliances that you would want to keep? Then you'd have two sets.

  • If you are planning on moving soon I would just find something to get you by.  Like PP mentioned your new home may have better appliances anyway.  Regardless i wouldn't buy a set.  In my experience we didn't get any sort of dealing buy a set than we would have buying one or the other.

  • I would try CL or ApplianceSmart.  They have a good scratch and dent selection that's cheap.  No reason to buy a brand new dryer if you're planning to sell.

  • I would look at Appliance Smart and get something new and cheap.  When our dryer died we went there and got a new basic set for $450.

I know when I was looking for a house I wanted the appliances to come with the purchase.  I didn't want the added expense of purchasing new appliances right after buying a house.

  • I definitely agree with pp. You don't want to add a big purchase onto your credit right now. You definitely don't want to take something with you that might not work in your new home Gas verses Electric or have to replace something that is already nicer.

We have been looking for a new front load washer and Dryer and Aplliance Smart has some really great choices.

PM me if you end up needing a different dryer, I might be able to help you out.
