bargain hunters: now 5% off everyday

I just have to share because I think it's a great program.

Target has done away with their old rewards program and launched a new one. Now, if you use your TGT Visa or TGT check card (which draws from your bank account just like your debit card), you automatically save 5% on your entire purchase.

we only have the debit cards because we don't want another CC but i'm stoked we get 5% off all the time now! (you can't use a debit card on Target.com so keep that in mind if you're a big online shopper.)

So anywho, if you're as big of a Target lover and bargain lover as I've always been, i thought you'd like to know!

  • So cool that they have a debit card, I'm totally going to get one! Thanks for the heads up, Lily!!
  • Doesn't it start Oct 17th or something?

And the Target Visa is no longer an option.  Those of us with one can still use it, but now you have to go back to the old-school "Target" credit card, only for use at Target.

A nestie friend works there and explained to me how all the test marketing they did shows people who use a Target-only card SPEND more, and with all the various reward options, this 5% was the highest grossing option for them considering now they'll earn more per customer who signs up for a Target card AND they know % off gets more sales.

But Love it!  We only use our Target Visa and a Discover as our sole credit cards so it works for me. :D

you're right about the Visa no longer being available. "We are no longer accepting applications for the Target Visa Credit Card." that's a bummer:

but they do have the target CC and the debit card. and you're right about it not starting until the 17th. i just keep thinking, "it's october now!"

i'm glad to get 5% off just for shopping there. combine that with coupons (and my 10% team member discount) and that adds up to a LOT of savings! i've been known to save over $50 in one visit!

  • How does someone get the Target debit card?  Or can I find details online?  (I haven't looked yet)

  • anita, that link i posted will take you to the right spot. for the debit card, you can either apply in store or mail in the form with a voided check. no online application.

    it's easy!

Awesome, Thanks!  I should have read all of the replies in the post before I asked.  I wish I could apply online - but I've already got to go to Target tonight for groceries, so I'll just apply in the store.

We do 99% of our grocery shopping at SuperTarget now, all of our household/toiletries and even some of our clothing shopping, so I love that we can get a discount!
