Jay Cooke State Park - camper cabins?

me and 2 of my good girlfriends have decided to rent a "camper cabin" up at Jay Cooke State Park in November for a girls overnight.

has anyone stayed in one of these before?

i know there is no indoor plumbing or cooking facilities... just wondering if they are clean/decent. also, is there any sort of a table/chairs?

also, how far is it from Jay Cooke to Duluth? i'm thinking about 30 minutes?

Re: Jay Cooke State Park - camper cabins?

  • We peeked our head into one that had just been vacated when we camped there last month. It was clean and had a ceiling light, and that was about it. There was a picnic table outside but nothing inside.

30 minutes is about right. You could make it in less time if you were going on 35 with no traffic. I don't know if there is still construction or not... You could also head east into Superior and go that way into Duluth. If you do, you drive right past the Anchor Bar, which is the divey-est of dive bars but they make the most delicious burgers in the world. And they're CHEAP.

  • thanks for the info. i guess we'll have to bring some chairs and some sort of a table. hmmm... the good news is, one of the other girls that is going is a hardcore camper so i'm sure she has all kinds of handy gadgets.

i'm stoked. these 2 girls are HILARIOUS. last time we did an overnight, my stomach hurt for 2 days from laughing. : )

  • Sounds like fun. Bring warm clothes!!! And if all else fails, you can hang out at the casino Smile
  • i'm pretty sure there is a table with 2 benches (to seat 4 people total) in all of the camper cabins. Unless Jay Cooke is different than all the other state parks. There is usually heat, a ceiling fan and lights inside. Thats about it.

FYI....construction is supposed to be done by the end of October!  Sounds like a lot of fun! :)

Agreed about the Anchor Bar....best burgers ever!
