...but we just got an invitation to a wedding in November, and I dooooon't want to go. It's a good friend of Dave's, and there are many reasons why I don't want to go, including:
- it would be expensive. Plane tickets + hotel + food + all the expenses that go with what would need to be a long weekend because it's in Toronto, and we live no where near Toronto (not even in the same province! Or the one next door!)
- I would need to buy a new dress, which would need to be expensive, because he's a lawyer and she's a doctor and they're wealthy and so are all of their friends (our friends too...we're the token poor couple, haha) and I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new dress because I'm really fat right now, but I wouldn't want to look like a bum when everyone else looks awesome.
- they gave us a REALLLLLLY generous wedding gift...like, no joke it was definitely in the top 5 of all of our wedding gifts, and the most expensive one coming from non-family members...so we'd feel the need to reciprocate that, but holy hell I'm not even working right now so there's not a chance we can afford that.
- it is 2 days after my birthday, and I am just annoyed because my birthday is in November and so there is never anything going on around my birthday, but this will be THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW that friends of ours got married in the few days around my bday, and yes we've gone to all of them...so it means that I effectively will not get a bday celebration
- I just don't want to.
But of course, this is one of Dave's bffs, and he is STOKED to go. And they made all the effort to come to ours only 4 months ago, and ours was in the middle of nowhere (ha) and at least there's is somewhere cool so we could kind of make a mini vacay out of it.
Re: ohhhh I know this makes me an awful person...
Oh, I feel you! We had a similar situation back in August.
I think you're on the right track with the mini-vacation kind of idea. That was my original goal for Super Wedding, before my accommodations were yanked out from under me and my husband was commandeered for the entire weekend.
I know that all of that makes sense rationally. But I am enjoying being irrational here
I know that I don't need to spend a lot on a dress (I am the Queen of budget shopping, and I always manage to look pretty awesome, haha) but I have been feeling really huge and awful lately and I just don't know if I could be surrounded by a wack load of gorgeous girls that I don't know right now. (I am completely ok with being around all my gorgeous friends that I DO know...but I hate strangers, lol)
Also - it will be our first wedding that we are attending since our own...and I just know that it will make me second guess ALL the stuff that we did on our own day. I'm just like that.
Plus, I am cranky today.
Perfectly understandable!
You're working out consistently again, though, aren't you? A good solid month of healthy eating and working out faithfully will have you back in fighting shape!
I can't help with the cranky. I woke up with an AWFUL headache, and I think it's coming back. I have four hours to go at work.
You're not an awful person! You make valid arguements, but it sucks that you still have to go anyway. Are we talking black tie, have to wear a fancy dress or just a nice dress? Cause you could always go to a second hand shop for a dress. I've never been to any fancy fancy weddings so I can't offer much help.
You should definitely make a birthday weekend of it at least with Dave while you're there, maybe take an extra day. I'd like to visit Canada some day.
And get a bag o' Homo milk.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.

you are so not an awful person! Jay and I had 6 weddings this year including our own and I was a bridesmaid in 2 of them!! We just had the last one 2 Fridays ago. I'm so relieved!!!! Go Enjoy it and spend what you can. You will have a great time and make it a mini getaway. You look gorgeous and will in anything you put on! Seriously look at yourself!!
Don't worry about what you did at your wedding, it was special to you.One of the weddings Jay and I went to, i think it made him feel better to point out all the things that were better at our own wedding, maybe you and Dave can do that too, LOL
All in all, its def more enjoyable to be a guest at a wedding so have fun. And it gives you an excuse to find a new affordable cute dress.
As for the crank- I will smack it right out of you!

I was in Toronto as a kid and if I remember correctly, its like a big city
We saw the Lion King there.
HAHA! You are gonna go and you know it but I tell you what you can whine and stomp your feet and pound your fists as much as you want and I will listen and tell you I understand because I totally do! Hugs!
