Re: This or That?

  • DRESSIN'!

I was always taught that if it INSIDE the turkey, it's stuffing.  (Stuffing it IN the turkey.)  But if it's outside the turkey and next to it on your plate, it's dressing.

The best I ever had was my last exes mom's dressing.  I really wish I had asked for the recipe before she passed away.

    How I likes it:

Non sweet cornbread, white bread, onions, celery, sage, chicken stock, salt, and pepper.... I think that's it.

  • i've always known it to be stuffing even if its not inside the turkey. my mom makes a good stuffing with chorizo and apples and H's mom make an amazing stuffing with ground sausage... but i couldn't say exactly how either are made. and i like the easy stovetop stuffing too.

and its funny because i used to hate stuffing. but i love it now.

  • Stuffing in Utah. I don't really like fancy stuffings, especially ones that contain meat. I like my turkey and I don't really like mixing meats like that.

I love my mom's stuffing. It's a very simple dried bread, sage, sweet onion, and butter recipe.

  • Stuffing. I've never heard anyone call it dressing, dressing goes on salad. Big Smile

ETA- I like plain old stovetop.

  • I'm in CA and I have heard both. My grandma calls it dressing but I have grown up calling it stuffing.

I don't like it any way shape or form.

  • Stuffing.... whether it was in or outside of the turkey.  I don't really like stuffing so I don't prefer it any way! lol

  • Well I was going to choose special snowflake but that was not an option.

We have dressing (rice and other stuff you cook inside the turkey) and we have stuffing (the yummy buttery croutony stuff).

    I guess we are weird.

I'm from the big crime land of Ohio (but my mom is from Kentucky so maybe that is why we have dressing? idk)

  • Stuffing. but people in my family call it either thing. i think my gma from the UP called it dressing. it's interchangeable in MI, and a personal preference (unlike the soda/pop debate, it's POP.)

i think it's a sin to put meat in it. YEA, I SAID IT. i'm not a fan of cornbread stuffing/dressing. too sweet. if i want sweet i'll eat pie. mmm pie.

my dad is *originally* from the south (base brat) so he likes the 'southern' style t-day dishes.  the rest of us would rather not. He calls it Stuffing no matter what's in it or where it is.

     mmmmhmmmm!!

I think it's called stuffing in my fam, regardless of where it's at, but I'm not a fan. I think I had a bad experience when I was a kid. ::shrugs::

  • It's always been called stuffing where I'm from here in Wisconsin even though I've never seen it stuffed in a turkey.

I like how my mom makes it- simple. Sage and Onion croutons mixed with butter, broth and water. Baked in the oven.

This is one of the 3 things my mother knows how to make.

I have had chicken in it and it was okay.

The sweetness can be avoided, and in my opinion, SHOULD be.  My gma and any other gma in the south I know that makes it uses unsweet cornbread.  Tastes MUCH better.

  • i think regular ol' cornbread, without being sweetened, is sweet. hence why it is so delicious in a glass of cold milk.

corn, in and of itself, is sweet, to me, so cornmeal has the same sweetness. for me.

i've had a corn-muffin (which is what i'm assuming is sweetened cornbread) once in my life. yak. i gag just thinking about it.

Has anyone ever told you that you're weird?  LOL.

I rarely had non sweet cornbread growing up, unless it was used in dressing.  With my taste buds, I taste the difference.

    You said yak.

  • yea we'd put like a few tablespoons of brown sugar in the whole deal 'cause you have to (like you have to add salt to sweets), but we kept the sugar content lower than the average bear just because. (also, we always sneak in a piece for dessert and slather butter and our homemade maple syrup all over it...north, meet south. lol)

  • Stuffing (originally from Hoosierville, but now a New Englander). I'm kind of boring... sage, onions, crusty bread...
  • SIDES? lol

Stuffings is in the bird and Dressings are on and around the bird while it is cooking! LOL

Favorite side: Yams, with apples, brown sugar, marshmallows, and walnuts!! YUMMMMMMMM

  • Dressing :)  H is from Arkansas and his whole family calls it dressing, too.  Whatever's in it, it's always a big deal who makes it.  Grandmas.

His family makes a big deal (on his mom AND dad's side) about how  Grandma makes the dressing.  Grandma always makes the dressing.  What?  Grandma's not making the dressing?  Whoever will make the dressing?  Sigh.  It is quite tasty, though.

  • Stuffing -- honestly never heard anyone call it dressing! Although why call it stuffing if it's actually NOT going in the bird? I'm from ME.

My grandmother always makes it -- pork stuffing. Yeah, yeah, I heard the no-meat thing, but trust me, it's good. It's a French-Canadian thing. I honestly am not sure what's in it besides the pork.

Now you wanna talk about pie...then you gotta try tortiere. It's a holiday must in my Franco family. Mmm, meat pie...
