What are you going to do with wedding photos?

I'm in love with so many of our wedding photos, but I know I can't display them all. I did a bit of googling for ideas, and apparently having a "shrine" of your wedding is as bad as putting registry info on an invite. I know hanging photos in the wall is a matter of personal preference and I LOVE having pictures everywhere. One of my dream designs is to have the wall of photo frames like in the pottery barn mags. So far we splurged on a canvas of our favorite print (the one in my siggy) that will hang either over the fireplace or in our bedroom. I convinced DH that we needed a nice canvas and our photog was having a sale, so he was somehow on board with this splurge. Apparently etiquette also dictates that it is only appropriate to hang wedding photos in your bedroom. We're also getting a nice professional album that I'll probably leave out somewhere. Maybe I'll do a tasteful photo collage on a wall somewhere. But what else?

Re: What are you going to do with wedding photos?

  • Only hanging them in the bedroom? What fun is that?

I do get what you mean though about over-doing it. I have already filled every frame in my house plus our digital photo frame. Hehe.....

But I do think to myself, what about my life before? What about all my friends? Why would I want just pictures of us in our own house?

But then I remember how happy they make me :)

Eventually I will integrate the old with the new, but for now I'm enjoying it. I had a big mishap with my photos, lost exactly half of them, so it's important for me to remind myself we did get good pictures. I'm concentrating on the good by displaying them all :)

  • I think if you want to have a "Shrine" of your wedding photos, go for it! You're newly weds! Then maybe as time passes, you can replace them with other events. My hubby wants to make an "Alaskan Wall" with a bunch of pictures from our Alaska honeymoon. He usually doesn't take part in decorating, so I told him to go for it.

And if you feel uncomfortable about how people would react to wedding pictures all over the walls, maybe display them in areas that guests don't go to often.

For other uses, we were thinking about doing photo Christmas cards and using one of our wedding photos, since we didn't do photo thank you cards. And we are going to print photos of our guests and include them with the card.

  • I think you will have to fill me in?  Why is it not okay to have a few in the lounge?

We have a few that are very artistic, and thought we might get a couple of small canvases done for the hallway, but maybe not....

  • Also, I got one of those big photo collage frames that fits about 20 pics, I filled the whole thing with family dancing and laughing at the reception. I have it right by the front door and love to look at it as I leave.

  • I'm a big photo person so I already have two shelves up with non wedding pictures with friends and family and pets. I have a big collage frame with 10 holes that I put wedding pics in. We have the photobook that I made through shutterfly on the coffee table.

  • So far...we have a frame in our living room..... 2 frames alongside a frame of our engagement pics on our mantel above our fireplace...another on a shelf in the same room...

plus filling some coffee table albums

would love to blow one up for the wall..but i wont.. my friend recommended this foto flot website...that she used...which make amazing wall decor..but i think that i've probably overdone it already. ha. :)

  • We don't have any up yet because we are moving in December - so we are waiting to use any of our wedding stuff/put up new pictures until then.  I know I am going to want to put up a few of the wedding pics up in our new place.  I can kind of understand the whole shrine thing.  A friend of ours got married about 4 years ago, and their hallway is still covered in wedding photos still.  To each their own though right?Big Smile

We have a digital photo frame so I'll prob. put some on there, then I also want to get a nice photo book made.

I'm curious to hear if you guys have any other unique ideas!

  • Nothing yet since we haven't gotten our disc yet.

We'll definitely use a photo on our Xmas cards, not sure which one yet.

I'd like to hang a few up around our house, but I'm not sure where!  We have some nice engagement photos and also wedding so I think we'll scatter a few of each around.  I'd like to choose one to have blown up pretty large, not sure where we'd hang it, but I'm having a hard time picking since our photos are more candid than traditional, so there aren't any that are "perfect".  KWIM?  I'm a little disappointed we don't have any good portraits.  But we just got our gallery so I haven't looked super closely yet.  None of them jumped out at me though.  :(

  • Etiquette for home decorating?  Never heard of such a thing and it's quite laughable.  I frankly don't give a d-a-m-n if people come into my home, see the HUGE wedding portrait in our living room and think we're in bad taste.  It's my home.  Therefore, I get to do what I want with it.  I don't decorate for others' sake.  DH and I have decorated our home with pictures/knick knacks/etc that make us happy.

I like your attitude on this! I agree :)

  • I was struggling with this very thing yesterday (and did not resolve it).  I know I'm ordering a bazillion to scrapbook, but I have a photo collage frame that holds 15 4x6 pictures, so some will go in there.  But I did want to order one of our favorites in a canvas, but I don't know where we'd put it.  We don't have a mantle, so DH's big plasma is sort of the center of our living room, and I don't know how it would look to have an awesome wedding canvas over our TV...
  • I'm struggling with this problem right now too!

Where did you order you canvas print?  I've used Snapfish and Shutterfly for photo albums for our engagement pictures and have that as our coffee table book.  People are always looking at that, so I feel that those pictures are always displayed.

I say, if you have the room, display the pictures!  You can always change them out with baby pictures or family and friend pictures later...

The wedding pictures in your signature are fabulous!

  • I definitely have a beautiful wedding pic hanging right over the tv in our living room, and it looks great!!

Also, check out the website artscow.com. I've been ordering from them for awhile and for the first 6 months to a year that you are a member, you get credits for tons of free prints and photo stuff. Check it out :)

  • We have wedding pics hanging in our hallway (five of them, and DH wants to put up more), and I made a very full scrapbook with a lot of them. Along with pictures, I put extra save the dates, invitations, programs, and my garter in the book. I'm not actually a scrapbooker like some people are, but I love it.
