I'm officially a marathoner!

I completed the Maine Marathon on Sunday! I didn't break any records or anything, but I finished and I finished strong.

The first half felt great, running at around a 10:30 pace, but after 16 miles it started to go downhill. My hips, calves and left foot started to kill. I found a military troop who was marching the marathon and they gave me some ibuprofen. I also loosened my left shoe around mile 19. Between miles 16 and 22, I ended up doing walk/runs but somehow after 22 miles I had a burst of energy and ended up running the last 4 miles strong and with a smile on my face. I smiled across the finish line, saw my mom, then started crying.

Throughout some of the run I kept saying "I hate this, I hate this, why am I doing this to myself" but now...I think I want to do another one! My time ended up being 5:27 but I totally think I can do better. Smile

And, the solar home, was awesome. We ended up seeing another one in Portsmouth, NH and it gave DH and I a lot of ideas for our future home. She had thick insulation, solar panels, solar water panels and concrete floors. And an induction cooktop! I want one. Haha.

  • Congratulations!!!  I think that sounds like a great time, and I'm so impressed you did it.  Go you!

Is there a link to more info on this solar home thing?  Was it a model that you looked at or someone's actual house?  I'm so curious about this.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Congrats on the marathon! Very impressive - I'm working towards only a 5k right now! Maybe a marathon in the waaaaay distant future.

    Congrats again!

This was the one in Portsmouth: http://www.nesea.org/Scripts/googleMaps/detail.php?id=1990

This was the one in Kennebunkport: http://www.solarhouse.com/

Both of them were houses that people were living in. The first house was DH's favorite.

  • That's incredible!

I'm pretty sure I know the guy who did the Kport solar house-- we consulted with him when I was in elementary school about a solar project (that's my hometown). They are so cool!

  • BIG congrats! What a great accomplishment and all that hard work paid off!
  • Congrats, that's amazing!  It sounds like you had a great trip all around.  Are you taking a break from training now?  Do you have any plans for the next race?
