You know what was conspicuously absent from last night's debate?

Social Security.

That makes me sad. No one cares about the youth vote anymore. Crying

Re: You know what was conspicuously absent from last night's debate?

  • LOL!! I came in here expecting the answer to be "Flag Pins" LOL!!
"HOW many US citizens and ranchers have been decapitated in Arizona by roving bands of paperless aliens, and how will a requirement that I have papers on me make that not happen?"courtesy of SueSue
  • Agreed, it is a significant concern for younger generations who will face a ton of baby boomers retiring soon.
  • Probably because neither has a great answer.  It is interesting though that I was coming around to the more conservative view on letting people make their own choices regarding investment of ss dollars.  Now with the current stock market I just have what if scenarios running through my head.

Ha! Did they not wear any? I'm mad I didn't check.

  • Interestingly enough, Obama was wearing a flag pin while McCain was not.

I did notice that right away.

  • That is really sad.

re the current market - under my mandatory 401K plan, no one would be in a place where they would need to withdrawl from the market to retire. They'd already be outta there if they were this close to retirement.

Ditto. No one close to retirement should ever keep that money in stocks. There are plenty of safer, private sector options and since people use them now there's no reason we can't extend that benefit to poor people. Besides, even if I lost half my retirement it would still be more money than I'd ever get from SS.  Every politician that proposes SS reform keeps the base guarantee of what the individual would have received from SS anyway, so we wouldn't lose.

  • Immigration.

I thought it was just my nutty DH screaming who is going to put his fence up after the debate last night. He has watched all three debates to get the answer to what at one time was his only issue in this campaign. It still remains in the top 3. On the radio this morning one of the talk shows had people calling in asking the same quesiton -when will immigration be addressed?

  • I of course was very disappointed that immigration was not addressed, as I consider it one of the greatest human rights issues this nation is facing at this time. A black mark on our history.
