Holy hair loss! Need suggestions....
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be bald by the time I'm 35....
I've noticed lately that more and more hair seems to be falling out, when I shower, brush, things like that. I've always had really thin hair. Before I was pregnant it was like this too, just not as bad. Now it just seems to be getting worse.
Any suggestions on shampoo or some hair care products to make hair stronger, so I don't go bald?

Re: Holy hair loss! Need suggestions....
I lost a metric ton of hair after the births of my sons (but not after my daughter, strangely enough). Hair elastics that used to wrap around my ponytail three times wrapped around six times! Every time I washed my hair, it clogged up the shower drain, and like you, I was afraid I'd go bald.
Then the hair loss stopped after a couple months and new growth kicked in. Of course, then I had tiny little hairs sticking up all over my head, but at least it grew back! Hopefully the same will happen for you. But if you're really worried, you could see your doctor.
I don't have any product discussions, but I do have a similar issue. I can easily get a handful of hair each time I shower. I was concerned that I was "shedding" too much and going to go bald. My hair dresser said not to worry. It feels like I have "thin" hair; I have lots and lots of hair, it's just all real fine. So, since I have more pieces of hair, I will shed more pieces. Fro me, I wear my hair up a lot, so it doesn't fall out as much during the day. Instead, the majority comes out in the shower, making it feel like more than average.
Long story short, for me, she said not to worry unless I notice my hair is actually thinning or my hair line is receding. I pray I never get to that point. My dad's side is all bald (men), but I think the balding gene is from the maternal side... O, and also, I have a friend in college who used a shampoo called Nioxin or something like that, that was supposed to make her hair thicker (or maybe not fall out as much). Can't remember excactly, but it made your head tingly
I don't have any suggestions, but I did want to add a comment to it being a pretty normal occurrence.
Recently when I went to a new hairdresser, he asked me (after looking at my hair for a few minutes) if I had recently had a baby. When I asked why - he said I had a lot of strands at the front that were broken off very short. He said it's something he usually sees in women who are post-partum. I told him I wasn't - I just wear headbands and ballcaps a lot.
He did comment that it goes away after a few months when it's a post-partum issue - according to what he's seen.
Thanks! That would be awesome.
Moesten - I tend to make things seem worse than they are! I'm sure it just seems like I'm losing more than I really am. But I'll definitely follow up with a doctor if it seems like it's getting out of control. I never really thought about doing that in the past.
I think this is it! I know it starts with an "N" and that looks familiar.
I don't have anything to add, but I just wanted to say that this is one of my worries about being pregnant. I have fine, thin hair that barely covers my scalp as it is. I'm terrified of losing more hair postpartum!
Thanks for the suggestin of Nioxin ladies. I will have to pick that up from the mall and see it helps me at all.
#2 - if it's not normal post-pg hair loss, then from my years working for a derm I can tell you that the majority of hair loss in women is stress-related, and there's little you can do besides reduce your stress levels.
#3 - if you're pretty sure it's neither of those, and you're still concerned, I'd see your family doctor or a derm if you have one. There are a few treatments available for abnormal hair loss.
GL!
I feel like I didn't lose any hair while I was pregnant and then a few months postpartum I started shedding like a dog in the summertime. It'll stop - but it will probably seem like it takes for.ev.er.
Everyone else has good advice for you.
