A list of the 25 most dangerous areas in the US, as reported looking at crime data.
Did it surprise me that Las Vegas made the list more than once? No.
Did it surprise me that CHATTANOOGA made the list? Yes. Granted, I don't hang on King and have usually avoided it.

" even the cities with the highest crime rates can have relatively safe neighborhoods, and thus it is less useful to generalize about an entire city"
I wondered about certain cities, too. I think I skimmed the text before the data too fast. LOL.

LOL, Britt.
See, being from the south, I have never actually thought of Ohio as being full of rednecks. I always thought anything north of Kentucky was NORTH.
But then later on in life, I realized that rednecks are everywhere.

Atlanta as a whole is not bad. Not at all. Growing up a little over an hour from there, I got used to the city.
It's just like other large cities. Too much traffic, lots of shopping, lots of restaurants, and areas that are more inclined to crime. People that live there know which areas to avoid, just like in Chicago, NYC, and LA.
From your previous comments about the south and it being backwards, I am taking your above comment as lumping again. How much time have you spent in Atlanta and the surrounding areas that get lumped in AS Atlanta? If you have spent less than a few hours there, total, you really haven't experienced it enough to comment as you did.
No offense to you but I have seen too many comments out of you about the South and I have always kept my mouth shut. But you DO offend me just about every time you say something. It always seems to be negative. And I hoped after getting half of the southerners on E riled up, you wouldn't make that mistake anymore.
I don't have a problem with you but just lay low with the southern generalizations.

Any big city/large population area is going to have some crime spots.
Orlando did surprise me though. I feel like there are way worse areas in Florida. Plus I just think of sea world, disney and epcot

I have to jump on this. It's obvious you don't like where you're living and I'm sorry. That really does suck, however, from a girl who's from a state that gets generalized comments A LOT (not from you) it is hurtful to hear you lump everyone together. Because not all southerners are backwards and contrary to popular belief not all people from Idaho are white trash hick potato farmers that have no power or technology (can you tell it's a sore spot?)
I really do hope that you and your H get to go live somewhere that makes YOU happy soon. Just remember there are a lot of people out there that LOVE Atlanta and call it home.

I'm not at all. Detroit and NYC have the same electronic reporting system... which is easily corrupted. There was a whole show on NPR about it that I missed b/c I hate biased news but H listened, and there are a few whistle blowers who are adamantly being accused of mental instability by their former coworkers. Right, right, DPD.
Most of Chene and East Grand Blvd deserve to be on that list. And parts of Pontiac, for that matter!

as someone who is from ann arbor and has experienced the head-hanging shame of living in ohio (lol) i really dont get the whole "bashing the current place of residence" thing. sure, it was time for jokes when i told people where i was from (and where i lived). And yea, my brother may have tried to hose me down before i entered his house on the holidays, but in all seriousness, unless you're being regularly tormented by the residents of your community, there's no reason to constantly publicly berate a large population of people just because you're having a hard time adjusting. it's okay to be home sick, and it's okay to complain about things sometimes, but chocking it up to "south" isn't going to help you.
home will sneak up on you. it will.

LOL @ no NY
WOOOOT LOL
I've read that NY was REALLY bad in the 90s (early maybe? not sure), but then there were some changes or crack downs or something and it's now considered one of the safest big cities.
I could be wrong... I'm going purely off memory, here.
