F/U Dear Landlord

The guy just came for the heat. Apparently the unit was rusted up and old. The landlord just had to pay almost $2600 for it to be replaced later today. Sucks for him!

It doesn't sound like a dump.  It just sounds like Chicago!  Adam's cousin just moved back to Nokomis from Chicago.

  • That's basically what you have to expect living in or around any big city.

Our issue in Miami was crooked landlords/contractors! We would love to own our next place. We'll see if that's feasible...

  • When I was little we started getting rats around our house because of a house above ours that was abandoned and falling in. We got a new cat (the one we had had just died) and the rat problem stopped. Can you have animals?

DH is allergic to cats. He takes shots for his allergies, and he can be around them ok now, but I don't know if he could live with one. I'd love to have a cat again. He really wants a dog, but I can't commit right now. The exterminator said it was just one rat, but there were holes in the basement which they closed up, so there shouldn't be another issue.

  • I hate to say it, but where there's one rat, there's usually more.  Did they put rat poison around the house?  When we first moved into our house, we had to get rid of all the rat poison that was already in the house (in the linen closet, behind the washer, behind the fridge, etc) because we didn't want the cats or the dog to get into it.  Luckily, we've only found one little field mouse in the house... or I should say that one of the cats found it... Wink

They put traps out, and monitored it over a week or two, then closed things up after they were sure there was no more activity. I think it should be fine now.

  • Ok, good!!!  My parents had mice in their house so they put out rat poison in their basement where the cats don't go.... they ended up finding a dead mouse in the freakin toilet!!  What a way to die.

  • My childhood home was in the forest. We had our share of mice. My brother even caught one in a popsicle stick box once (you know the ones you make in arts and crafts). We kept it as a pet, but I think it only lasted a few wks.

In grade 5 we had about half a dozen pets in our class. One of them was a rat and it gave birth to about 6 babies. They got loose over spring break and ate the class gerbil. One also died in the radiator in our classroom and I can remember my teacher trying to fish it out... yuck!

Are you kidding me?!? That's horrible! And kind of funny.

  • I had three little mice as pets when I was in 7th grade.  They stunk.... bad.  We were moving and my parents were selling our house so we put their cage outside on the backporch and a neighbor's cat ate two of them.  I cried.  A lot.  I'm a baby

  • A few months ago my Mom's weiner dog somehow got my 9 year old sisters hampster out of its plastic ball and killed it under my other sisters bed. My Mom was washing dishes and noticed the hampster wasnt running around the kitchen anymore, she went looking for it and found an unpleasant site under the bed. My dad had to clean it up before my 9 year old sister got home. She cried for hours...
