Crisis! My sister's bakery is closing & she's getting married next month!

My sister booked Maribelle over a year ago-today she got a letter telling her they're closing next week.  She's having a huge 350person wedding Thanksgiving weekend.  Any suggestions on who we can call with super short notice?  They suggested Patricia's -we'd rather use someone else.

  • I don't know about in Dayton. But I just wanted to say that you will be able to work it out. I'd grab a phone book and start calling. Our venue went bankrupt 2 weeks before our wedding and they were making our food and cake and I found a bakery with a week to go. I'd recommend them but they are in Covington.

  • Is she getting married in Dayton?  If not, I could suggest ours but she is in KY.

  • Jerry's Cheesecakes.  They dont just do cheesecake, they do cake as well (their red velvet is amazing!).

I cant believe Maribelle's is closing, and how very unprofessional of them to cancel on your sister.  Wow.

eta* If you cant find anyone to accommodate you,  have you thought about Sam's club?  They can do wedding cakes, and imo their cake tastes really good.

  • We used Tres Belle (Tracy Bellman) and everything was perfect and I still get compliments on how good the cake was.

I would look into her - she is very accomodating and incredibly sweet.

  • Don't know anyone in the Dayton area, but I do know two people who do cakes out of their homes (one being the lady that did our wedding cake - which was awesome, BTW).

They're located in Harrison, OH (west side of Cincy) and Brown County, OH (way east side of Cincy), respectively.

Let me know if you want either of their contact information.

    GL!

  • wow... I can't believe they are closing and how rude of them to do this!

We got our wedding cake from Patricia's and it was delicous and they did a great job! Good Luck.

  • The Cakery in Dayton is great - We loved our cake!
  • Oh no, her reception is at the Madison.  I just thought it would be assumed it was local b/c she booked with a local bakery.  I don't think many bakeries would deliver 50 miles away-well they might, but I'd hate to see that bill!  Anyway, she's meeting with Mo Thie at Cincy State, Tres Belle, and Spoon fulla Sugar.  But yeah, I am really ticked off for her!

  • I have eaten a wedding cake from Spoon Fulla Sugar and it was very good, I wouldn't say it is as good a Maribelle but it is definitley better than most.  I have heard really good things about Mo Thie but never had her cake.  Have you tried Bonbonerie, imho I think they were pretty close to Maribelle's standards?   Also I have never had their cake, but I have tried Take the Cake in Northside?  I have heard good things about them too.

Knowing that, we used Incredible Endings in Northern KY and she is awesome.  Might be worth a shot if she doesn't find anything else.  She delivered and set up our cake and we got married in Indiana, so I know she travels.  GL!

My vote would be for Spoon Fulla Sugar.  We met with the Incredible Endings lady and her house was a disaster.  We sat there and looked through a "portfolio" of pictures from magazines and listened to her rave about how she was the best for an hour.  Then she brought out the cake for us to try...chocolate, week old chocolate cake...I hate chocolate, much less week old chocolate.  We asked about trying other flavors and were told we could try anything that is leftover from what she uses to make other peoples' cake.  However, if no one was having the flavor combination, we wouldn't be able to try it.  Big F in customer service, IMO.  We also met with Bonbonneri and I wasn't all that impressed.  Some of their stuff tasted really good, but they were not very flexible.  I felt they were arrogant and overpriced.  I have had Jerry's Cheesecakes cheesecake at several gatherings and it was very good.  I can't speak for his wedding cakes as I have never had one.  Best of luck to your sister!!

  • One last thing about Jerry's Cheesecakes- the frosting they use is amazing!  Its an almond cream cheese and OMG, that alone it fabulous.  We get birthday cheesecakes from there and we fight over the frosting LOL.
  • I used Three Tiers in Bellevue. She is on facebook. She's great to work with and the cake is great. She made my cake and delivered it to The Madison in August!
  • Call Carol or Maggie at the Bon Bonerie. Carol helped us with our cake and she's FABULOUS!! The cake looked and tasted amazing and they are super flexible. I'm sure they will do their best to get her on their books especially if she tells them the situation.

     Best of Luck,
