My sister is Preggo!!

Yayyy!! She's only 6 weeks and let it slip on the phone tonight.  She hasn't told my parents yet, so it's still super hush-hush, but I'm very excited!! She's been married 5 years and has had baby fever for a while now.

The only thing is, my BIL is finally getting deployed to Afghanistan (He's been trying to go over for the last few years) and his 6 month term is Feb-July and she's due in May.  None of our family lives in my sister's city, and I'm sooo worried for her.  I don't think she realizes how hard it is adjusting to a newborn, especially with your husband on the other side of the world.  I hope I'm able to go up on vacation for a week to be with her.

Anyone have a friend in a similar situation?

  • First, congratulations!  How exciting that there is a new little one coming to your family.  I don't know anyone in that situation, but I am sure you will do your best to help out and share advice with her!  So happy for your family!

  • Congrats to your sister!!! And to you for becoming an Aunt! Would your BIL be able to get a leave to come back for a few days for his child's birth? I don't know how any of that works but it might be worth a shot for him to ask/let his supervising officer know the situation.

  • How exciting!! Congrats to your sister! And congrats to you auntie :) I don't have any experience in dealing with military situations, but maybe you can get your sister setup on the Nest. I know they have a military board. Maybe she could find some support there.
  • Congrats to her!

She'll be fine. Women all over the world do it every day. One of my besties has two babies, when her H left one was 2.5 the other about 6 months. She may not have had a newborn, but it's all really tough.

(Not trying to sound insensitive) I'm just trying to reassure that she will be fine. She knows the military life, she's probably a pretty tough cookie and I have faith she'll do great.

And yes, hopefully you can go spend time with her, that's sweet. :)

  • Congrats! Yes my friend has done it with two! One is almost three and the other is five months. For the first kiddo, he was gone almost the entire first year. For the second, he was gone her whole pregnancy, came home and a day later she had the baby.
