Crock pot?

I've been thinking about buying a crock pot the last few days and I want to know if it's worth it. We don't have much storage space, but I can find the extra room if it's going to be a good addition. What do you think?

Re: Crock pot?

  • YESSSS!! I seriously love mine.  You throw some stuff in there, turn it on, go to work, and BAM - dinner's ready.  I have a "Crockpot" brand "Smart Pot" with 4 settings.  It will also switch to "warm" after it has cooked for the amount of time that you want.  It's 6 quarts which is way too big for two people, but really handy for having family over.  I've also heard good things about the Hamilton Stay or Go, which is possibly smaller?? If it is, I may get one myself or ask for it for Christmas.

  • My vote is for Yes!

I love my slow cooker, I use it about twice a week.

I have the Hamilton Say or Go, and so far it's worked out pretty well.

I use the blog http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ to find lots of yummy recipes.

  • I don't use mine too often (I'm paranoid about leaving it plugged in all day), but I do love that I have one.  I have the same one as Ashley the Smartpot thingy.  This one or the one above it with the digital timer on the front were the ones I really wanted.  Definitely worth it.

  • I have 3 in different sizes.  I love them.  Though I don't use them as much as I could because I am paranoid about leaving them on when I'm not home too.  Haha, I guess maybe my fire paranoia is why I married a fireman, LOL!

I also have 3 different sizes, a 6 qt, a 5 qt, and a small one for dips. My 6 qt is a Hamilton Beach I think, it has the snap on lid for easy transport. I don't use them as much as I should, but I really like them. I did use the 6 qt to make a hasbrown casserole for our church picnic a few weeks ago and it turned out great!

  • Oh my God, you have to get one!  Everyone I know is obsessed with their crockpots, and all the teachers at the school I worked at the last two years were constantly trading recipes.  It was the first thing I put on our wedding registry (ok, that's a lie...the first one was my Kitchen Aid mixer which I LOOOOOOVEEEE) but MAN I was excited to get it.  I love it.  I use it all the time and everything tastes better when it comes from a slowcooker.

Do it.  It will change your life.

  • SO WORTH IT! We use ours so often - it's the best invention ever! Mine broke last week and I went out and bought one immediately - I can't imagine life without it. It's so nice to be able to put all your dinner in there and come home and have dinner be all ready to go! Great recipes here..  http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

Exactly!!! I hate leaving it on all day if no one is home, but I use it a ton when I am home and on the weekends. I have a larger one (not sure how big) and a small one for dips, but I have never used the small one. It came free with the big one!

  • OH MY GOSH, YES!

We have two; we have the Hamilton Stay or Go, and I adore it. I've taken it to a couple of different places-- MIL's, potlucks. Then we have a bigger one that has the timer and autowarm features. I use the Stay or Go most of the time, but it's occasionally nice to use the other one and know that it'll stop cooking the food when you want it to and just keep everything warm.

I second the recommendation for the Crockpot 365 blog. I have her book and may possibly pre-order her second one. Embarrassed

I pretty much don't cook except in the crockpot.

  • I love mine! I make baked sweet potatoes in it all day and when I come home my house smells awesome. This weekend I made homeade clam chowder. I make roasts in it! I can list off some wonderful things that I do with it but thats just a touch of what we do.
  • Sounds like I'm going to be getting one! Maybe before I head to WW tonight I'll stop by BB&B. We still have a bunch of gift certificates we need to use there!
