Hi there! I'm coming to Minneapolis this Thursday - Sunday for a weekend trip with a guy from No. MN (I'm divorced...this is a good friend I'm visiting). I was hoping to get some recommendations for some local, fun restaurants/bars in the Downtown area? I'm staying right off of Nicolett mall. Prefer non-chain, and don't need fancy. I've entertained clients in Minneapolis a ton but it's always been at the nicer steakhouses.
Re: Quick visit to MN
Do you want live music, dancing, bar games?
That may help narrow down ideas for people.
Have fun
How old are you? What types of places do you enjoy? Do you like dance clubs? Dive bars? Fancy food?
I'll just give you some places I like:
Restaurants - Seven (they have a rooftop bar w/ a DJ on Friday nights if it's warm enough out) - this is on Hennepin. I think they have a dress code some nights however...
Bar - The Local - Irish pub (the bar itself was shipped over from Ireland and they are the largest seller of Jameson whiskey IN THE WORLD!) they have great food as well. better for maybe a Thursday HH.
Bar - Kierans - Irish pub (notice a theme?) This is a bit more main stream but they have FUN Irish music on the weekends. (if Reverse Cowboy is playing, GO and see them. they are awesome and funny.)
Hmmmm... I don't go out downtown much so that's all I can really vouch for. There are lots of dance clubs like Spin and Aqua (think Jersey Shore. lol.) But I don't go to those places!
HTH! Have a great time.
Second the Local or Brit's Pub is good too. Brit's has lawn bowling on the roof during the summer but I'm not sure if it is still available this late in the year.
I've heard really good things about Barrio (tequila bar) although I've never been. Masa is good for margaritas with chips & guac during happy hour.
Hell's Kitchen or Keys are amazing for breakfast after a night out.
