Finally figured out a vacation
Of course, now I have to wait until I get some time accumulated (by April, I should have a week at least accumulated) but we decided in April or May we're going to take a road trip. We're planning to go through PA, stop in Cooperstown, on to Vermont and do a Ben & Jerry's tour, and then probably about 4 days in Maine (a couple of days each in a couple different places). Has anyway ventured anywhere along this general route and perhaps has some recommendations?

Sounds nice. I have never been, but B has been to Vermont...it was 10 years ago and he said it was boring and the town shuts down at 8, but it was also October when he went.
We have never been to Maine, but my neighbors go to Bar Harbor every 5 years. If you want, I can get some info from them and pass it on to you.
Been to both, Vermont is BEAUTIFUL to drive through, but I went in the fall. Been to Maine also...the Portland Regency is beautiful, and Kittery is the town with all the outlet shopping, which is great!!! Make sure you get lobster rolls and blueberry pie while you are there. I think I still have some passes to go whale watching if you want them (they guarantee a whale sighting or your next trip is free and the passes never expire, but I don't think we will go back simply b/c we've "been there, done that", ya know?).
I remember a family vaca to Maine and Cape Cod area when I was about 15. I learned that out east, lobsters are super cheap, like $9.00 for a dinner, but they serve them whole...still looking at you. I've not eaten lobster since. We went whale watching which was awesome and saw a mama humback teaching her baby how to feed. We visited Martha's Vinyard and rode bikes and stuff.
It was really pretty and nice...I would love to go back and visit sometime, but it is definitely a slower pace vacation. Perfect for relaxing and just soaking in the sites.
