Can you rec a nice Greek or Spanish restaurant?

Ok, so this is a very broad question, but my parents and I wanted to throw my sister a little family engagement party and we're looking for either a Greek or Spanish restaurant (she and her FI love Spanish food and they're planning a Greek honeymoon, so we thought that'd be nice). Ideally, we're looking for something fancy (ish?) I myself so rarely go out in the city these days that I'm having a hard time coming up with something. Help! TIA!

between York & First, 73rd, I think or 74th. Sorry, too tired to google it.

Great tapas, anything with their green sauce Huge portions so order accordingly.

Their sangria could be a lot better though.

  • Sala 19 is one of my favorite places for sangria and tapas. It's small but the food and drinks are amazing and I've seen family parties handled really well. My bachelorette dinner was at Pipa and I loved it too - we couldn't order enough of the croquetas. Both are Union Square area.

And of course, there's Dos Caminos with their awesome guacamole... I can never say no. :) The new one in Meatpacking is gorgeous.

  • Forget my other replies, I just remembered the BEST!

    Calle Ocho, 446 Amsterdam Avenue (bet 81st & 82nd)

I must have been brain dead when I posted the others.

eta, they do have a private room in the back if you ask. GL

  • For Spanish (I assume  you mean Spain, and not Cuban, or the other Latino the two most AMAZING restaurants you can go to both live in the West Village.

I've hosted family (and work) parties at both as well.

El Faro's - its the OLDEST Spanish restaurant in NYC. Amazing. I totally suggest the lobster in white sauce. To die for.

    Sevilla. Amazing. All the time.

If you're doing something "fancy-ish", you might not want to go with tapas.
