Anyone here get earaches or toothaches?

Today I have an earache in my right ear and now I know why little kids are so cranky when they get these! Ouch.  I think this is the first one I have gotten in my adult life.

My only concern is that I've heard tooth problems can cause earaches.  My jaw isn't sore or anything, but my ear did hurt more when I drank hot tea this AM.... anyone know how to tell the difference between a ear related earache and a tooth related earache?  If it matters, my throat gland on the same side is swollen too.

Any natural pain relief techniques?  Thanks!

  • Are you clogged up and all? Like your nose or anything?

  • Not clogged up right now, but I have been stuffed up off and on and sneezing a lot since August.  I think it is allergies.

  • maybe try a netti polly or potty or whatever it's called. it'll clear you right up and might help with the pressure

  • I get bad ear infections once every few years. To relieve the pain (this might sound a little strange) I heat up a damp washcloth in a mug in the microwave and then hold the opening of the mug up to my ear. The steam relieves a ton of the pressure and temporarily helps the pain. Just be careful and check the temp of the mug and steam before you put it against your ear. If it's too hot I'll let it cool or just hold it a little farther away.

Thanks I will have to try this!  Do you usually have to go on antibiotics for them?

I've taken antibiotics a few times and other times they went away without any meds after a couple of days. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I thought I had ear infections because of ear/jaw pain and the dentist told me I am clenching my jaw at night.  I have to use a bite splint now, but the stabbing pain is gone!  Do you grind your teeth at all?  That can cause it too.

I've also read garlic oil is good in the ears as a natural remedy.  Maybe google that?

  • Thanks for the advice!  I am in much less pain today so I think I'm on the mend.  I actually do grind my teeth at night!  Maybe that is why.... I'll have to look into getting a bite guard or something.  I've been meaning to do that for a while now.
