Anyone bought a TV lately?

We are in the market for a new TV.  2 yrs after our main TV bit the dust, I'm finally giving in.  Problem is, H wants 60 in...no less than 50.  I hate spending that much money, so I'm trying to find the best deal.  So, where have you all found the best deal?  Do you know if Best Buy etc will price match from stores online? and last, anyone know of a a gadget you can use when searching online to help find the best deal?  TIA!

Re: Anyone bought a TV lately?

  • I do not have any specifics, but the experts are all saying that tvs are going to be the best deals this Christmas season. I looked at some at Target and they were not too bad. My parents just bought one at Best Buy and said they got a really good deal on it.

  • We bought ours a few years ago at hh Gregg.  The had 12 months same as cash, price matched and even gave us an extra $100 or so off when P asked of they could do any better on the price.  We have a 42" Sony Bravia and love it.

When it comes to size, P did all kinds of research about what size a TV should be based on the distance that our sofa is from it.  Our family room is pretty small so anything bigger wouldn't give us the best picture quality.

  • Thanks ladies.  I know Christmas is supposed to be the best deal, but he can't sleep without TV.  When the TV downstairs went out, we moved the bedroom TV downstairs.  Ever since, he falls asleep on the couch most nights.  Often, he doesn't end up coming up to bed.  It's becoming a major issue for a number of reasons, so I'm not sure waiting until Christmas is worth the savings :(

  • We bought an LG 55' LED from Best Buy at the beginning of August.  It was originally $2499.99 we got it for $1580.80.  It was on sale plus we had a coupon of 10% off but after talking and ringing everything up we all realized it was a coupon for regular priced items.  So manager said I'll meet you half way and gave us 5% off.  Plus we got a free 19' tv which was matched from an online offer off of Best Buys website.  I love best buy they have great products and great service!  I would definitely recommend them.
  • We bought a 42 inch Phillips LCD at Sam's in Jan.  It was 600-ish but we got it for 495 b/c the box was opened.  They probably have some good prices on the 60 inches as well. Can you wait until November?  TVs are supposed to be super cheap for Christmas and stores will probably do pre-black Friday sales like they did last year.

I know you want bigger, but I'd try Sam's as well (I'm not a member but a friend is). I got a 42" Vizio there for $700ish, I think. The  best part is that it has internet connectivity which is the most awesome thing ever and I'd totally recommend it.

  • Thanks for the input. I know Best Buy and HH Gregg are offering same as cash offers right now. I really like this idea so the $ can sent in the bank a bit longer...for the whole 5 cents of interest or whatever it would earn. I am also a member of Sams, so maybe I can try to negotiate with them. I will talk to H and maybe we'll wait until November.

  • Best Buy is the only place we buy electronics, it's just a great store and they always seem to have great deals.  they will price match anything and up to 30 days after you make your purchase if you find it cheaper anywhere else or if it goes on sale at BB they will refund the difference to you.
