ughhhh job hunting!

this is just a nice little rant for all those who are job hunting to commiserate with me haha!

I quit my job in April and have been working part time as a nanny.  I didn't really start looking for a new job until about two months ago.  I'm all about it taking some time but I'm not hearing ANYTHING back! I've only gone on two interviews! One was only part time so I had to turn it down and the second went to someone with more experience....totally fine with.  I'm just at such a loss! Our lives are on hold until I start working full time again.  We're making it financially but I miss working!  I'm working with a placement agency, scouring the job websites, and have even applied for positions through craigslist. Ugh!

If you've made it this far you get a treat! image

Re: ughhhh job hunting!

  • While I'm not job hunting, DH is.  I completely understand how frustrating it is.  He's been looking since we moved down here (over 2 years ago) and he is beyond frustrated since any entry level positions in his industry are non-existent due to the economy.  Good luck with your search and keeping your sanity!

  • I know exactly how you feel and can offer very little advise except to hang in there. I've been looking for about a year now and feel like I'm in a black hole at work. My only saving grace is that I keep telling myself that it can't be like this forever.

    Good Luck!

  • Im not job hunting at the moment. . .but I was at one point. At times I wish I had a job, but right now. . life is a little hectic and DH agrees that school and the small pt job I have is enough.

I wish you luck though! When the right job comes along, you'll get it!!!

P.s. those pumpkin cupcakes made me hungry :o)

  • I'm sorry, I know it's frustrating. By the time DH wrapped up his year-long unemployment, he had applied to over 1,000 jobs, from which he probably had maybe 8 interviews. Hopefully it's gotten a little better since then (it was a year ago), but it's so rough out there! Can you take any classes that are pertinent to the jobs you are going for? DH started to take a class at Wake Tech right before he interviewed for his current job and he thinks that taking the class (showing interest in learning & growth) made the difference in getting the job.
  • What industry are you looking in?  I just got a new job.  I had applied to several on my own, and several through my recruiter.  The only ones I got called back on were through the recruiter.  Is that what the placement agency is? Do you pay them or does the company that hires you pay them?  I also worked with two recruiters at hte same time, because they have information on other positions available.
