I've had it up to here with

...the KKK putting anti-Obama flyers in newspapers (not the paper's fault, I know), women's groups putting Obama on food stamps, and all the other racist stuff.

So if Obama wins, is this the kind of thing we're going to start hearing about on the regular? I can't take it.  I mean, seriously, food stamps and watermelon, are we going there?

Re: I've had it up to here with

  • You forgot the fried chicken and kool-aid, lol.  And yes evidently we are going there.  I go back and forth between feeling excitement to live through such a monumental time in history and yet almost longing for the time where I knew people felt these things but I didn't have to witness them demonstrating those feelings so overtly.  What makes it worse is that now you can't even call people on it or you are throwing the race card.  And of course throwing the supposed race card is viewed as bad as the racist act.  wtf?

I try to tell myself if Obama wins, eventually things will simmer down.  But that really is wishful thinking on my part.

  • I think progress can be painful.  I think things like having a black man as president are necessary to wipe out this type of thinking.  I guess we could wait for ignorance to die out completely on its own, but we'll be waiting a long time.  I know it can be infuriating, but it's also uplifting to think you may be part of making history and achieving a huge milestone for our country.  Even if he loses, knowing he came this far, and it aaaalmost happened, is a huge step.

KKK flyers?  Yep, I'd say you're entitled to throw the race card on that one.  And everyone should be outraged by that type of conduct.  It's just disgusting.

I like to think that this is just a small but vocal percentage of bigots, though.  It seems like the fringe always makes itself heard, you know?  And what's the alternative -- never having a black president because of racists?  Never having a woman president because some a-holes yelled at HRC that she should iron their shirts?
