Halloween Costume ideas

My sister throws a party every year for the family. In the past, the adults have dressed up and I have to say I HATE trying to come up with a costume idea. I HATE it with a passion. I can't stand trying to come with an idea and spend money on one night. If it was an actual party at a bar or a big party with a ton of people, I wouldn't mind. But all we do is take pictures, and then 10 minutes later people are out of their costume. So STUPID.

Last year, costumes were optional. Yay! I actually looked forward to the party for the first time ever! This year she put on the invites, to dress up - "that even if we don't want to spend a lot of money, we still can find something to wear. The kids like seeing the adults dress up to." (Yeah, I'm sure that is the hightlight of the evening for that, not the bag filled with worthless crap they take home).

So, while I know that she can't force us to dress up, I don't want to deal with comments all night. I thought about pinning two socks to our shirts and calling us static cling. Enough to say that we wore a costume, but also show that we don't give a rip about wearing a costume. Any other no-cost suggestions.

Yes, I know this makes me sound like a bitter, grump. But I am in a grumpy mood this morning.

Re: Halloween Costume ideas

  • Print out some pictures of birds and bees. Pin them on your clothes.  You will go as "the birds and the bees".

  • Get a large cardboard box, cut out 2 pacman shapes and paint yellow (I've got a big box if you're interested in this).  Attach the 2 shapes with string.  The other person will dress up like a ghost using an old sheet and chase you around.  You will go as pacman.

  • Paint your face like a cat, get a party hat and party horn- you are a party animal.

Yes, these are all totally cheesy.  I'm a dork Stick out tongue

Hee hee...one year we wore the plug and socket set. My sister wasn't too happy with me.  The kids were young enough at that point in time that they didn't get it.

Haha.  That's awesome.  If we end up doing anything for Halloween this year, we'll totally go as this.  I think it would be hilarious.

Thanks!  I found a ton of ideas for a friend who needed some help with group costumes for work earlier this week.  I saved the list for posts just like this!

  • These are good idea! I will have to use one of them.
  • I totally hear you about not really wanting to dress up. My husband is even less into it than I am.

This year I am going to be a Tree (wear brown, attach leaves to my arms) and my husband is going to be a Tree Hugger (white shirt with puff paint that says "Save the Trees!"). Cheap and easy... my kinda costume.

  • Well, it wouldn't be "no cost" but one year my friend came to my house as a "cereal killer".  She wore all black with a black mask, carried a fake knife and had a bunch of little boxes of cereal with slashes of red nailpolish resembling blood painted stuck all over her.  Good luck!

  • I've gone as a GVSU Fan or MSU fan.  Just wear one of the shirts for either school.  Paint their letters on my face and wear some party beads that I have leftover in the school colors.  I've done that a couple different years since I hate dressing up too.

Really any team you have a shirt for you could go as a fan.

I've done this a couple times!  Cheap (pretty much no cost), easy, and not too costume-y.  Big Smile

  • I have a witches hat.  You could wear all black?

What are the girls going as?
