I almost forgot! I think we have a ghost!

Sorry this is so long...

Now I don't believe in ghosts because the Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, but I do believe there are ALOT of things that cannot be explained.

This morning while I was drying my hair in the bathroom, HH was down the hall in the kitchen with our dog fixing his lunch when he heard a girls scream over top of the noise from my hair dryer (which is really loud btw), coming from the direction of our garage. He said he wouldn't have anything of it (thinking he was hearing things) but the dogs ears went back against his head like he was scared at the same time HH heard the scream. The scream could have come from somewhere outside, but it would have had to have been really close to the house for him to hear it over my hair dryer. Shortly after telling me this HH leaves for work and I'm by myself lol and of course I hear every squeak the house makes.

This isn't the first time we've heard things either. Right after we bought the house we were meeting there on a Saturday to do some painting (neither of us were living there at the time). I arrived first and decided to use the downstairs bathroom. While in there I heard someone walking around upstairs so I thought HH was there. I went upstairs to say good morning, but he wasn't there, no one was. I was alone in the house.

Our first night in the house right after we came back from our honeymoon we had just went to bed when we heard two really loud thumps. HH went through the entire house trying to find what it was and found nothing. What is going on in our house????

  • I don't believe in ghosts either, but that's just because I think it's all BS.  I DID have something freaky happen to me once though.  I went to my ex boyfriend's lakehouse with him and his parents for a few days.  We had to sleep in separate rooms and I was in my room sitting on the bed when I felt a cat jump up on the bed.  I've had cats all of my life so I KNOW what it feels like when a cat jumps up next to you.  I look next to me and there's no cat.  I started looking under the bed and ex-bf came in and was like "Um, what are you doing?"  Looking for your parent's cat.  "They don't have a cat"....... weird.

  • When I lived with an ex-fiance we lived in a duplex that was on the property of place that had once had a old southern house on it the only thing left was a chimney. It had burned down. Things would go missing picture frames would get turned around. His keys would go missing and we would find them in the spare room in the closet on the second shelf in the corner where you had to use a step ladder to get to them. Or cupboards would be rearranged in the middle of the night. I got to thinking I was crazy.

When I moved out and he still lived there he called me and told me he thought I was doing all of those things but after I left and lived 3 hours away I obviously wasn't and it was still happening. He also said he was seeing things out of the corner of his eye. He also said he had seen a woman in a long dress and thought it was wierd. I just laughed and him and said see I am not crazy.

He went to the library and started looking up the history of our address and found out that a prisoner had escaped in the early 1900's and found the shed that was connected to the house open and went in there to get warm and started a fire. He ended up burning the house down with a Mother & Son that died in that fire.

I was happy not to be in that place any longer!

  • OMG Pam! I would have thought I was going crazy to. Glad nothing like that has happend at our house...yetTongue Tied

  • Creepy! Have you tried researching your place?

My mom and I stayed in someone's house that was built on a First Nation's burial ground. I couldn't sleep alone. I could feel someone watching me (like standing over me). It was such a weird feeling.

  • I totally believe in ghosts.  I haven't seen one myself (at least, I don't think I have) but I've felt some really weird "presences".  Dave and his brother saw a ghost when they were in the DR a few years ago though.  It was about a year after he and I had started dating, but it was a family trip and I didn't go with them (his parents paid for it, and this was before I had met any of them, so...)

He and his brother were sharing a room, and his brother woke up and saw a man and a woman standing at the foot of his bed.  He yelled Dave's name, which obvs woke Dave up.  Dave didn't see anything (apparently the couple had disappeared) but the room was FREEZING and there was about an inch and a half of water on the floor.  They both saw the light on the door turn green (you know the little card swipy things that are red, and then they turn green when you unlock the door?) and then go back to red.

They were both like "holy sh!t" and talked about it for a few minutes, but when Dave got up to check to make sure the door was locked, the water on the floor was gone.

My FIL was obsessed with the story and went on a big news hunt to find out if anything had happened at that resort...sure enough, 2 or 3 years before this happened, a middle aged couple who had been staying there had rented kayaks and then drowned.

I have way more ghost stories and just general things that would freak you the eff out.

  • OK that story about the drowned couple and Pam's story are enough for me!!!  (I stay alone in our house all week while DH is traveling for work...well, just me and the dog) And if she ever hears anything that makes her freak out or perk up, I am trusting that.

My family owns an old country house that used to be an inn, apparently. My cousin used to stay in it all the time alone and he's convinced it's haunted. At one point he slept with a shotgun next to him.  One Christmas we were all there and I was sleeping on the couch in the livingroom...woke up in the middle of the night to footsteps coming down the hall toward the livingroom (which makes no sense since the bathroom was at the opposite end of the hall so anyone up in the middle of the night to pee would be heading the other way) and suddenly the VCR - this was in the days before DVDs were more common - started rewinding all by itself. The remote was accross the room.  Very weird indeed.

  • Wow! We've got some pretty crazy stories between us all! I've never researched our place, but I do know it was built in the 1920's and has been on fire 3 times. The first 2 fires were because of cats knocking over candles and the 3rd was an attempt to get insurance money. I'm going to have to do some digging though!

  • Hmm. I don't really believe in ghosts, either, but I'm also not 100% ruling them out. Just 99% ruling them out. Smile I believe in spiritual forces (angels, demons, etc.), just not "ghosts" in the sense of dead people hanging around because they have nothing better to do.There are a lot of crazy stories out there, though, so I'm leaving a leetle room for doubt!

The campus where I work is supposed to be incredibly haunted, but the library is a newer building and the "experts" say that we don't have any ghosts here. I've certainly never encountered one, here or anywhere else.

  • So scary! I have a wild imagination so every little squeak makes me nervous.

  • I beleive in ghosts!  I grew up in a haunted house.  One night I heard someone walking across the attic.  The only people in the house were my mom and dad and myself.  The attic door was locked from my side.  My cat heard it too.

The house I live in now is haunted.  I have had water come throught the kitchen ceiling (the plumber couldn't explain it), plants are dripping wet when I haven't watered them in a long time, and the bathroom faucet turn on by itself.  One morning I was laying in bed and felt one of my cats kneading around my feet, when I looked, no cat.  That happened 3 times in a row.  Then the last weekend my stepson was here he said he felt someone touch him during the night.  There are also random cold areas in the house.  Before DH moved in I would find things moved or my clothes hanging wrongside out (I NEVER hang clothes like this).  I used to joke that the ghost was messing with my OCD.  My house was built in 1923 but I haven't been able to find out more about it.

  • Similar to Pakarufus, I lived in a haunted house.  We were renting a house for about 8 or 9 months while my dad was finishing our new house (I was about 5 or 6 I think).  Turns out the whole street was haunted.

I would wake up almost every night to a man standing at the foot of my bed.  He was dressed in old Civil War type clothing (we lived in Georgia, so it makes sense) and would usually have an ax held up over his head (like if your were chopping firewood).  Terrifying for a 5 year old to say the least.  My mom and brother would also see a lady in a long nightgown and bonnet walking through the halls at night.  And we heard footsteps all hours of the day.

We had some friends that their grandparents lived on our street (like two houses down).  They had a bench swing (like a porch swing - but on an a-frame) in their front yard.  It would just randomly start swinging - no wind, no one around it.  Just consistently swinging back and forth, not losing any momentum. Baseballs had a mind of their own in that yard, too.

Then there was an abandoned house at the end of the street that we all always dared each other to go into.  The doors and screen doors would open and slam shut by themselves ALL the time!  I never went in.  I got REALLY close, but never went in.

We also all think that my Aunt visits us from time to time.

    I OBVIOUSLY believe in ghosts.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!! Just hearing that story now makes me want to pee my pants!  I don't even like to watch scary stuff on TV

  • I don't completely believe in ghosts either, but I have had my fair share of weird occurences. I'm also so scared to be alone because everything I hear in the house, I think someone is around.

When I was a senior in high school, I lost my grandfather and the night he died I saw him in my bedroom just looking at me. This went on for a couple months where I would wake up in the middle of the night because I felt someone watching me. I later found out my youngest brother also saw him. After a couple months I stopped seeing him and I haven't yet.
