Re: Check this out...

  • I give mad props to anyone that can do their own renovations and stuff...

but my God... she's living in Barbie's dream house.  I'm not a fan.

  • Karen- I feel the same way... I was thinking that she must have her husband by the ballz because there is no way in a million trillion years that my husband would be cool with having a kitchen like that.  I love the comment The Miner made (on page 2 of the thread)- "is there a man kitchen somewhere for your poor husband?"

This is one scenerio that I can honestly say with a straight face that I feel sorry for her husband.

  • My experience is that the D&R board is usually pretty blunt about things they don't like or things that aren't their style.  So are all those people complimenting it lying?  Or are they better about praising when the renovations are already done?

I'm not even sure a different color scheme would change my mind about the renovations....

  • I'm not a fan of hot pink, but I think it looks awesome.  I like the kitchen more than the dining room, but I like how she made it her own and I love the antiques!  She has balls...  And snaps to her husband for helping, and biting his tongue.
  • NMS at all.  I like clean lines, open spaces, and clutter free counters.  It looks like a doll house.  I wonder how she got her H to agree to this makeover.  I have a hard time convincing mine to have a flowery duvet cover.

  • Wow! That's pretty crazy...

It's NMS, but I have to say the before/after is absolutely incredible, and good for her to break out of the mold and do something totally her (or so it wounds from the comments).

DH would never let me get away with that though...

  • Totally and completely NMS.  That being said, it looks like they did a quality job of it so I give them points for that.  Blech.  I agree that it looks like a barbie playhouse.  lol, is it bad that I would love for them to sell it and be a fly on the wall to listen to people's reactions?  Me personally?  If I walked into a house like that I would laugh long and loud!
  • Oh my god. That is horrid. I don't know if I could walk into that place and not laugh. It is definitely NMS, which is a huge part of why I hate it, but seriously? That had to have dropped the resale value on that home! The placement of the stove is completely random (and doesn't seem to have any sort of ventilation?). The only thing I like about it is the farmhouse style sink, but I'm not even sure that goes with her "theme."

And DH would NEVER have let me even think about doing anything like that to any shared space in our home. It is honestly disrespectful of her DH to make him live with something like that, IMO. I wouldn't want DH's comic book paraphernalia all over my house, so I won't make him live in Barbie's Dream House (had to use it, Karen :)).

  • NMS, but it's not terrible.  She should hire a designer to go in and clean it up a bit--for example, the visual textures plus the color are a bit much for me to digest.  Also, trinkets and a candelabra on a workstation are not very cohesive to kitchen design, but maybe the workstation really isn't used (some people don't cook, right?).

Take a hint from Coco: "Remove one item before leaving the house," or whatever she said--remove one (or five items) before declaring your project complete.

Bahahahaha!  This looks to be a person with far too much time on their hands.

  • I do like what she did with the rest of the house.  Kitchen is a huge turn-off for me, though.
  • imageCipolla2Be:

I can see how her kitchen reflects who she is...but I still don't like it.

  • Wow, NMS at all.  I mean, good for her for running with her 18th century obsession and fully expressing herself with her decor, but yikes.    There are just too many "loud" pieces--and they are all way too loud.

And like PP, I would have a hard time getting DH on board with this kind of renovation.  He doesn't usually have decor opinions and mostly lets me decorate how I please, but I have a feeling he would put his foot down if I tried to turn our kitchen into Marie Antoinette Barbie's kitchen.

  • I wonder if she took it down because I went back to look at again but it won't come up. But to be the odd ball I loved it lol. I would never be able to live with it mind you but it's so fantastical. Maybe it's just because I am reading a book right now that takes place in 1899 and everything seems so grand and wonderful (which I am sure they weren't really, well maybe for some people).

I do think the masqurade us hilarious since she seems like the only one that went over board and dressed to the nines. I think she thinks she's a movie star. Big fish, small pond.

  • She posted a DD post and explained that she removed it due to dramz and hopes people find something better to do.  That sucked because I wanted to show DH.

  • What did the ladies on the D&R board start turning on her? Because the few responses I read loved it?

    Or are we the drama?

  • I have no idea, but it was on that particular board (based on the way she worded it).

I was so annoyed! I went to show Juan last night and the link had stopped working. I showed him the masquerade pics, though, and explained what the kitchen looked like in relation to the dress she was wearing...he got the idea.

I did have his reaction spot on, though...no freaking way!

  • I was bummed too - I wanted to show it to DH this morning and it was poof - gone.  So sad.  I then pulled up "barbie playhouse" and told him it looked similar.  Stick out tongue

I looked at it later, and there were some not so nice responses on the second page of her post. I think it must have been C&P'ed somewhere else too.
