Help me decide where to go!

Alright ladies,

My indecisive self is at it again. I have funding from a grant to travel to conferences related to national service. I have three that I am looking at right now. All three will be helpful, none of them stand out as oh my goodness this conference would be so helpful that I need to go there so I'm going to give you the dates and locations and help me pick two!

New Orleans- June 6-8, 2011

Biloxi- December 13-15, 2010 (as a side note, that is 4 days before I go on vacation for two weeks and will be out of the office a lot that month if I go, doable but something to think about)

and

Dearborne, MI - November 15-17, 2010

If I go to New Orleans, I will have to pay some of my own food at both conferences since it'll sap most of the budget to get the travel, hotel and registrations done, but a girls gotta eat regardless of where she is so that isn't a deal breaker either.

Help!

Re: Help me decide where to go!

  • Since they are all similar in terms of helpfulness, as a Michigan girl, you will probably not want to go to Dearborn in November. If you won't have time to see the sights, the cold will be enough to make you miserable. :-)

Conversely, New Orleans in June will be a little rough but totally doable. Personally, I like Biloxi and the fact that it's right before your vacation is a plus to me because instead of coming off a trip and then heading back to work, you get to put your feet up for two weeks.

Clearly, my choices are based off of the sights and entertainment factors since you said the conferences are all similar so my votes would be Biloxi and New Orleans. Either way, have fun!

  • Michigan in mid-November doesn't seem like that much fun to me, based purely on weather (and the fact that your FB status is about having to whip out your fleece jacket).

Plus, as KeyRyn pointed out, it may be a good idea to go to training before your vaca.  Think about what life at work is usually like right before vacation anyways, all you can think about is not being at work.  So maybe being at a conference will help the pre-vacation high.

  • I'm leaning towards Biloxi and New Orleans anyway, because Michigan is next month and I will have not as much time to prepare.

I like the though of being gone most of December, but instead of thinking about the tuned out part or work before vacation, I was thinking about the seventy billion things that need to be done before you leave.

And yeah...I'm a cold weather wuss, even more so since I've moved to GA.

  • I'd go with the New Orleans option.  December seems to be a month that disappears even when I am home the whole month.  Personally, I think it would be double difficult to be away from work, then vacation, then the holidays.

  • New Orleans.  And you MUST eat at Mulate's and Cafe Du Monde.  Or I will find you and hurt you.  Those are the best eatin places in the city, IMHO.

HA! Not me. The longer I stay away from my boss the better for everyone lol

Millejj, I get what you mean, though, about the pile of work that will need to be done before you leave and once you get back. In that case, I would lean more toward New Orleans. Plus June is around the start of crawfish season if I remember correctly (nom nom nom) so if you like a good boil and beer, you can't lose.
