Letting go is hard!

So, I'm a bit of a pack rat. Not a hoarder by any means, but I definitely keep things way too long. I'm having a garage sale this weekend and getting rid of about 8 boxes worth of stuff that I finally decided to let go of. Easy enough. Felt good. My mom, however, just called me after going through her storage room and found another box of mine. One I had purposely been keeping. It's my clown collection from my childhood. I LOVE clowns. I have dozens of them, a baby mobile, stuffed clowns, figurines, wall decorations, etc. When I left for college, I packed them all up to save for my future kiddos. But sadly I married DH. Who is afraid of clowns (like won't go to the circus, turns away from the tv when he sees them, it's pretty bad). I just gave my mom the ok to put it all in the garage sale. I KNOW I'm going to regret this. But I can't have a dad afraid to go into his hypothetical child's nursery. So sad.

From an outside perspective the fact that you have a box of clown memorabilia is pretty funny

However, I totally understand. I sometimes have a hard time getting rid of stuff like that too. I have no issue getting rid of clothes and such but personal memory things are tough. It sucks that you can't use any of the stuff because of your DH's fear of clowns - I'm not a fan either - but I still think it would be cute to use vintage clown stuff for a nursery.

Vintage!! I never even looked at it that way. Not sure I like that word Clowns are supposed to make people happy, I never quite understood the fear of them. And yes, I've seen It, and Killer Clowns from Outer Space. Sigh. I especially love the little paper mache ones I have from my trips to Mexico. Now, those would be vintage!

I knew I should have dumped this guy 11 years ago when I found out about this issue!

Lol - I dont really understand the fear either but sometimes they are a little creepy... not the cutesy cartoony ones but the more realistic ones.

And yeah vintage might be a stretch - I dont want anything I own to be called vintage either but considering the fact that my grandma just shipped me the "vintage" cradle that she bought my mom when I was born and passed around to all my cousins, I decided to call your childhood stuff vintage too. Made me feel better

I could have sworn my mom was the only person on Earth with a clown collection. I stand corrected. She has a ton of Emmitt Kelly's though and some that have been collected from places she travelled. I never really understood the fear though I've never seen the scary movies.

I would say to keep at least one or two special ones. Maybe you have some that aren't quite as scary for your H? It would be nice to have something to pass down to your potential future children.

I agree. I may have let out a laugh to read that the last box was filled with clowns.

But, I agree with Cooky. Save a handful of your favorites and allow yourself to move on from the rest.

Why is a clown collection so funny to you guys?! DH has a Goofy collection. So there :P

The idea to save 1 or 2 is actually a really good idea. Since the garage sale is starting tomorrow without me, maybe I'll have my mom send me a picture real quick so I can have her save one or two.

It's not so much that it is funny, just different. So many people are afraid of them that it is rare to find someone who actually enjoys them.

They aren't creepy in the collective. Just like every profession, there are always a few bad apples, like Pennywise. But most clowns are just sweet, misunderstood creatures whose only joy is making someone else smile.

Personally, I like clowns (though, I will admit, I like Goofy better...)

However, as someone who has had to be the sheild to grown-a$s men and women who HIDE BEHIND ME when they see a clown, even like a nice sweet kid's birthday party clown, I too would throw them out only to not have to deal with the coulrophobics (heck yes I looked it up) in my life.

If there are any clowns in particular that you were really attached to or any that me be of collectable value, I would say you need to fetch those from the garage sale box and keep them. DH can deal. Or he can throw away his Goofys. Eye for an eye and what-not.

Well, if I made him throw away his Goofys, he'd make me toss my Cinderellas. I guess I'm a collector. I have a clown collection (stored), Cinderella collection (displayed), and Native American and wolf collection (half displayed, half to be sold). At some point, each of these themes decorated my bedroom. Currently, our guest room is 1/3 each Goofy, Cinderella, and Native American.tn

But, um, no, my children will not get my Cinderella collection until I die. All collector caliber stuff there.

Have I ever mentioned that I have a highly addictive personality? I don't know when to stop with anything. It's why I avoided Vegas for so long, and why I quit, yes quit, drinking at 18 (don't worry, I promptly restarted at 21). I think my collections are a symptom of this.
