November

Why do you say that Miles doesn't seem to like food?  Ian was really slow to eat table food regularly, and I thought I'd be feeding him purees forever.

Re: November

  • He is just very picky with food.  He never liked jarred baby food, and refuses most purees.  Outside of yogurt (which he loves and will always eat), he'll swat away the spoon, turn his head, refuse to open his mouth, or a combination of these things.  If I do get something in there, he'll spit it out.  I don't blame him - most jarred food is gross.  We've tried better tasting things, but it's still so hit or miss.

We started with table food and he likes things like cheerios, and will eat crackers and even frozen waffles/pancakes for breakfast.  DC has gotten him to eat grilled cheese, but they say he's generally pretty lazy with food and doesn't like to chew (which is sad given the 8 teeth in his mouth).  He just won't try most foods.  If I try to put it in his mouth, he'll push me away, and get very agitated.  If I just leave food on his tray, he'll sit there and point to it, or will pick it up and examine it before throwing it to Mabel.

I've started to pull back on formula per the doctor's suggestion, as she thinks he's just not hungry enough to venture outside of his comfort zone.  We'll see.  He's definitely gotten better but it's still a struggle.

  • That can make for a frustrating mealtime!  I found that when he reached his peak of formula consumption, and got to a point I wasn't going to exceed, he was more willing to explore finger food.  His interest really exploded when I started cutting the formula in his bottle with whole milk.

I don't mean to diminish how frustrating this must be, but the mental image here made me giggle.

  • Moo, it is really funny, actually.  He likes to point at everything, then he picks stuff up very daintily betw his thumb and index finger before throwing it onto the floor.  Mabel has learned to sit under him for every meal because it rains food.

  • My friend's dog loves when Ian comes over for dinner.

Last night Ian started tossing his meatballs (he always throws them behind him) and one landed on top of his head.  I left it there and he got pissed.  Later he launched a mouthful of green beans right at my face.  We decided to call it a draw.
