Anyone work with a trainer at the gym? Or is a trainer?

I worked with a trainer at the gym this summer on weights.  They had a great deal on sessions then so I tried it.  They're having another deal now and I want to sign up again.

So is it ok to ask for a different trainer?  The one I had before was kind of ditzy and not very motivating.  She was selling some line of suppliments and food.  When I'd ask a question about what to eat or if there was something I could do to help out my energy or workouts, she launched into a salespitch.  Not too keen on that and I had to tell her several times I wasn't going to purchase from her.  And I had to keep telling her that I needed to leard how to eat healthy and meal replacement bars/shakes wasn't what I was going for.

The sale they have is for both 30 minute sessions and hour long sessions. I did the hour long sessions before, but I wonder what the differece is with the less time.  If I did hour sessions, there would be about half the number of sessions than if I did the 30 minute ones.

  • Every trainer offers different strengths, just say you want to try someone new for a variety in your work out.

You're paying for a service you should certainly get what you want! :-)

  • If you were unhappy with your trainer for any reason I would ask for a new one.  Sounds like you didn't mesh well with the last one.  It is your money and you are paying for it.  You need to find a good fit.  When you sign up let them know you are looking for someone that can also talk about nutrition as well and giving you a good workout.

  • I workout with a trainer twice a week and I don't know if 30 minutes would be long enough for me.

I would get a different trainer. My relationship with my trainer is part of what keeps me motivated. If he was trying to sell me stuff it would have a negative effect.

  • I work out with a trainer once a week and if our personalities didn't mesh I would be moving on...I don't think your previous one would feel offended because I am sure it happens, and I know my trainer has actually referred clients to different trainers that may better suit their personality and fitness goals.

  • If I was forking over that much cash for a trainer, they better be good! I am a little jaded though and haven't had a good experience with any trainer yet.

I would even go so far to see if you could try them out and work with a couple to see what the best fit will be for both of you.

  • yes. You're paying. you wouldn't keep a pair of pants that didn't fit right, you'd exchange them.

I switched trainers once because the dude kept checking himself out in the mirror.
