Hey ladies, I know I've been MIA again but life just got verrrrrry interesting here in the McAwesome household. When not entertaining visitors over the past month, E and I have been trying to figure out what our next step in life is - we've been throwing around the idea of heading back home since the job market isn't great for him here, and our visas expire in January anyway. Meanwhile, he had been applying for all sorts of interesting positions all over the world. Just for fun.
Last Monday, E got an e-mail that he had been shortlisted for a 6-month position with the UN and that he would be interviewed over the phone on Wednesday. The interview went well and he was told he'd be notified via e-mail within a week, but that it was quite competitive. We found out last night he was selected for the position, and it's the opportunity of a lifetime for an aspiring human rights lawyer. He'll be spending January-June working with the office of the co-prosecutor at the UN special court for the Khmer Rouge.
In Cambodia.
I still can't believe it - I'm wicked proud and it's an amazing opportunity, but there's also no way I can go with him. Sooo it looks like I'm coming home.
To be honest, I'm psyched. I really love London, but I'm not really growing much career-wise here, and if I'm going to be on my own for 6 months, I'd rather be in a more familiar location. It's looking like Philly at the moment, and I'll most likely be back starting November 21st. I'm actively job hunting and trying to wrap my head around the change of plans, but all in all really excited. I miss my family. I miss my friends. I miss my stuff. But most of all, I miss cheez-its.
Soooo GTG in a few months anyone?
Re: Well holy crap (long, sorry!)
WOW what an amazing opportunity for him! Sucks that you'll be apart but I'd be proud too!
I need to visit Philly someday. I really do.

Well Ringy I'll be flying solo so you can always crash in my big empty apartment! I'll take you to the best cheesesteak joint in town ;-)
And MO, if you promise me cheese and beer every day, I'm in.
Ooh also, we haven't told family (and I haven't given my notice at work) yet - so if you wouldn't mind keeping it hush hush on facebook for the time being!
Now jumping domestically.
Well that was a crazy couple of years.
Congrats to E! What a great opportunity and experience this will be. Good luck with the upcoming move and all the changes.
