Texas Union Ballroom

Ok...I think we have finally picked a reception site for my sister in law's wedding next July! :) It was between the Sheraton Downtown or Texas Union Ballroom.

Texas Union won! :)

Anyone have any good or bad reviews? Any advice regarding the site? The menu?

Thank you awesome ladies!

Re: Texas Union Ballroom

  • Spatial planning is key. It's a beautiful space, but can feel very sparse if you don't have enough to fill it. I went to one reception there for a small wedding, and it felt so empty. I almost wish they'd have done the buffet inside the ball room instead of in the hall outside. It would have utilized more of the space. I've always had good experiences with their catering group, so no advice there. Just enjoy! :)

  • Is their in-house caterer Catering by Rosemary?  If so, then they also are the in-house caterer at the Bullock Museum, where I had my reception many moons ago.  At the time, they were very easy to work with and had great food.  They did accidentally charge my credit card twice, which caused a panic two days ahead of time, but they resolved it very quickly.
  • DH and his best friend and some of our other friends used to work for Texas Union Catering.  It is not Catering by Rosemary unless that changed recently.  I love the space and I would recommend them.  I remember going to many functions and banquets there.  I can't remember the name of the current catering manager off the top of my head at the moment but you should be in good hands. :)

ETA: and ditto Leigha12 - the space is so huge.  Depending on the guest count, if she has the budget to rent square tables or do long tables, those take up more room than the round 8- or 10-person tables.  Maybe set up a fun lounge area.

  • Thanks ladies!

The current in house catering group is Aramark. I have seen good and bad reviews online. Not 100 percent sure on what food will be served yet. The wedding starts at 7:30 at St. Mary's (Catholic Mass) so the reception won't really start until 8:30 or 9.

We think there should be about 225 people or so who show up. Lots of drinkers so we have requested an extra bar in the room. :)

  • Yep, Aramark, that's right.  I remember the fajitas were good. :)

  • 225 sounds like a great number for that space. I think the last one I went to only had about 100-120 show up. Very empty in there.
