christmas gift recipes?

I have some standard food gifts I make every year, but I like to try 2 new ones every year, and I've decided on one, but I'm having trouble figuring out what the other should be... do any of you have specific food gifts your known for in your own circles?

Re: christmas gift recipes?

  • I always do a cookie tin full of different things for friends, family and co-workers.  Last year I added Christmas Crack and Tiger Butter to the mix... I got both from knotties (who are now nesties).  I don't have the recipes on me though..maybe someone can post them.
  • I've never done this, but I've always wanted to! I'm doing it this year. It's decided. The one I've been wanting to do is Hot Chocolate.
  • One of my standards is something I started calling christmas crack... b/c I become addicted to it every year... this is my recipe...

    TOFFEE BARS

    2 c. crushed vanilla wafers (about 50)
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1/3 c. butter, melted
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. chocolate chips
    1/2 c. chopped nuts

COOKIE BASE: Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine wafer crumbs and brown sugar. Stir in melted butter. Press into 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake for 8 minutes.

TOFFEE LAYER: Combine butter and brown sugar in saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil; boil 1 minute. Pour immediately over baked base. Bake 10 minutes longer. Let stand 2 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let stand 2 to 3 minutes until chocolate is soft. Spread evenly. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Chill. Cut into bars.

  • I know it sounds odd for Christmas gifts, but I make a wicked salsa that I'll be jarring up to give as gifts to my co-workers.
  • Last year was the first time I did the "homemade yummy" route.  I made my own vanilla extract!  It turned out really good!
