Sandra! (of the Panda variety)
I
your blog post on the stupid fb "I like it" statuses. I was actually going to come on here earlier today to start a discussion on this, as I don't understand how where one puts one's purse has ANYTHING to do with breast cancer awareness, but you wrote a blog with my exact thoughts!
I mean, I don't tend to participate in any fb trend, but at least the BRA one made sense for BREAST cancer awareness. Suggestive/vulgar statuses regarding purses? Yeah, not so much.

Re: Sandra! (of the Panda variety)
Thank you! I was actually inspired to write the post because of some comments on my Facebook page about the status. I said I didn't know what it was, someone said it was where you put your purse, so I called it dumb. Then someone said, well it's for breast cancer research so don't call it dumb when you don't know what it is.... but... it's still dumb! It's not helping breast cancer research at all. Why don't we all do something to actually help?
Posting that status might make one feel like one is helping, but it's not. It's a false sense of accomplishment I guess.
I guess what bothers me more is that Breast Cancer isn't a leading killer among women. We should be doing more about heart disease. And breast cancer is not even the leading cancer killer among women, it's second to lung cancer.
It bothers me that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I think it should be Cancer Awareness month. There are dozens of types of cancers, some a lot more deadly than Breast Cancer. We should be focusing on those as well.
So there's another two cents from me.

I totally saw that comment and almost said something to that person - but I didn't want to be the crazy jerk that turned your status into an argument! Hahaha.
But I agree with you - too many women are uneducated on heart disease, but we're all brainwashed to do a self-check on our breasts every month. I like the idea of having a Cancer Awareness month - I think it would be helpful to educate people on all the different forms out there.

I totally agree 100% so you ladies are not alone. Trust me, I'm all about breast cancer awareness seeing as my aunt is a survivor and just had her reconstructive surgery, as well as any type of Cancer research/awareness for other reasons.
I can understand the bra color comment because, well it was colors, and it was fun. dont see how having a comment that can illude to something sexual has anything to do with breast cancer and the awareness/research.
I'm sorry, and I'm definitely not a prude, but I dont have any desire to make a status that will have people thinking about me having sex in any way.
ooooohh I so agree! It's like a false sense of accomplishment "woohoo I helped raise awareness about breast cancer today" well, in fact, no you didn't. Nobody can make the logical jump between "I like it on the dining room table" to wow, breast cancer kills a lot of women each year. Ugh I just had this rant to my H last night!
If you really want to help, raise some money and do a Susan G. Komen walk, or relay for life, or something that actually does some good.
btw, it looks like a lot of people are over it
