Falcon Lake Shooting

Yeah, this is something I could post on P&CE, but I've never posted over there...so, I'll post here.

What do you all think of the story?  Do you believe the wife?  I do not doubt that there are pirates in the lake--Tamps. has become extremely dangerous over the past few years.  However, I don't believe her.

Why?  When I first heard the story last week, she said she had escaped the pirates by jetting off.  I read a story yesterday confirming that version of the story (I can't find the link, but found a very similar account with a video from ABC here.).  This morning, I read this article on CNN and watched this video from NBC Today where she's saying they pulled up alongside her and is quoted as saying:

They didn't say anything to me, so I don't know what they were trying to think or what they were doing, but they left," she said. "They just left me there. Thankfully they didn't shoot at me. They had a gun pointed at me."

So, what do you think?

Re: Falcon Lake Shooting

  • This is actually the first I'm hearing of it.  (I live under a rock.)

Are you saying that you doubt her story?

  • Yes, I doubt her story.  When there's a body and autopsy (and possibly a real eye-witness) that proves her right, then I'll believe her.

  • So because there's no body or witnesses, you think she's lying? Has any motive been found why she might want her husband dead?
  • From what I can tell, US authorities are just believing her and not questioning her detail of events--although her story has changed.  That's the big thing: her story changed.

  • I heard her story as i was getting ready for work the other morning.  Well I actually heard it 2 days in a row because she was on The Today Show twice.  Her story made me say "WHAAAAAAT?"....I heard her say that she was staring at the gun and they were trying to figure out what to do with her.  What got me is that she said she tried to save her husband but she had to leave him.  Then she said she went back and couldn't help him.  It didn't make any sense to me....then she said how they (Mexico) were hiding the body and the jet ski....the whole story just made me raise an eyebrow and call bullshit.
  • Hmmm, seems to me, if people are questioning her that much, there's usually a reason. She went back to get his body and they started shooting at her again? Yet she thinks they dragged his body ashore and left it there?? Why didn't they just shoot her the first time??? Blood on her lifevest does not corroborate her story, at all.

  • I agree, Munkii, something fishy. It reminds of the guy that went overboard on his honeymoon cruise...

I would be shocked if the story she is telling is true.

  • Interesting.  I'll have to start looking into this story.
  • We are leaving to go to a resort in Cancun for our anniversary and one of my coworkers told me bits and pieces of this story as a "warning". She told me drug lords shot this guy just because he was American and his wife barely escaped. She said "they will shoot you just b/c you are American, you are totally going to die on that trip. Don not go to Mexico". So I read the story myself because that did not seem legit. and I emailed her today to tell her that I was safe as long as DH didn't try to murder me and blame it on pirates!

LOL, did she really say that?  Was she serious?

Lol, "you are totally going to die..." Totally.

Nice.  So disregard the fact that Cancun and Reynosa are in two different states and the fact that the kidnappings and shootings are generally not happening around touristy areas (there are some, but they're few and far between--and generally have a Mexican connection).  That co-worker is crazy!  "You are totally going to die!!!"

  • Haha I know, she is nuts! I told her if I die then I am going to die tan, with a drink in my hand, on a beach and that is fine with me! I think she just knows she has to cover for me while I am gone so she is trying to scare me out of leaving.
