I ordered the turkey brine from Williams-Sonoma and it arrived today. I was so excited about this for the Thanksgiving turkey because I kept reading such amazing things about it. Well, I pull out the jar and the label says that it's made on equipment that may also process stuff that contains gluten, so MIL won't be able to eat it. Why did they not put this anywhere on the website?!?! Matt started to suggest that we make TWO turkeys, and I about lost it. No. No. No. So now I have to hope that I can return food. That stuff was freaking expensive!
Matt's in a bad mood because the Pens lost.
We're both in a bad mood because he has to get his car inspected by the end of the month and we knew it needed two new tires. It started making a noise a couple of days ago, so we knew there was an issue there. The shop is telling us that it's a cracked manifold (ka-ching) and that the whole floor is rusted out (ka-ching ka-ching). We're taking it for a second opinion because the shop said they couldn't recommend anyone to fix the floor, and it just seems fishy that there is not a speck of rust on the body of this car but the whole underside is apparently gone and we have somehow not noticed. PA inspections suck.
So I get to get up an hour early tomorrow, run him to get his car, follow him to shop #2 to drop the car off somewhere else, take him to work (half an hour in the wrong direction for me), and then drive an hour back to my job-- for the second day in a row! And this means that I'll get to work late, so I get to stay late-- on a Friday. And then drive all the way out there to pick him up again.
Not the happiest of evenings around these parts.

Re: Argh
Sorry honey, you've had a rough day and a long one to come too. I hope it goes smoothly and you can have a big glass of wine at the end!!
Sounds like you may have to do something else for Thanksgiving, if the brine's not going to work out. Do not stress yourself out on your first thanksgiving dinner with 2 turkeys!!!
ETA: Damn right get yourself a second opinion on that!! We took my old car to a shop for routine maintenience (sp) and the next time I used the AC, it was broken. Took it back and they said there was a hole in the compressor. Wonder how THAT happened??? Just my skepticism in that.
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
Amen to that! My car is due for inspection by the end of December, and we already know that I need two new tires and at least $400 worth of work on ball joints or some such thing. If it weren't for the cars, we'd be in fine shape, but we just cannot keep spending $300-$700 per car every month and a half. But we can't be a one-car household, either, and any car we could afford to buy would be just as bad as what we already have.
Rock --> us <-- Hard Place.
::deep breath:: It's Friday!
Here in Alabama they don't have mandatory checks for ANYTHING!!!!
Hey Kelly, could the floor be rusting out from the salt they put on the roads when it's icy? Maybe that's why there isn't rust on the body?
I hate cars! Mine has cost me way too much in the past couple years as well. I'm all for the teleporting option. I hope you hear better news when you get a second opinion.
I'm sure it is the salt. Cars rust like mad around here, but I just think it's weird that there is NO rust on the doglegs or anywhere like that. We'll see... still waiting to hear back from the body shop, and I have no idea what we're going to do about the possibly-cracked manifold.
State inspection sucks. So do emissions. The next county over doesn't have emissions inspection, and neither does the one where I grew up, but the one I live in does. A couple of years ago I seriously contemplated "selling" my car to my dad so we could title and register it there. I had to spend about $400 that year to pass emissions because some sensor needed to be replaced and only the dealer could read the computer code and find and fix the exact problem. I was so mad.
It also ticks me off that the government gets to tell us that we can no longer drive our cars if there's too much rust and not enough paint on the fenders. I get inspecting for safety issues, but some of what they fail cars for is just ridiculous.
In good news, I can send the turkey brine back!
