Update on Rufus

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

I went to see Rufus this morning & the vet was really pleased with his progress!

He is still hooked up to the IV and is on a lot of pain medication, but he was much more alert today. He still can't move his head very much, but if I got out of his line of vision he would move his eyes around to try to find me when he heard my voice.

He's still very swollen, but it has definitley gone down some because the vet said he had been up on his feet and trying to walk earlier. She said they'd all been really surprised at how strong he is fighting and how badly he seems to want to live. I'm so glad that he has the will to make it. That's a big part of the battle.

He isn't completely out of the woods. The torn mucles will take a very long time to heal and he is going to need a lot of nursing, but we're willing if he is. Also there is danger that the damaged tissue will start to die rather than heal and he could go down hill rapidly if that happens.

For now we're cautiously hoping and praying that he keeps improving. We are going to bring him home tomorrow when my parents get back from vacation, so that there will always be someone with him.

Thank you all again!

  • Thanks for the update!  His will to live is a testament to the love, support, and joy he must get from his family.  Please give that hurting puppy a little extra love--I'll continue to keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers!  I'm happy for even the cautiously good turn in his condition.
  • I'm glad to hear that he's fighting! You're very right in saying that the fight on their behalf is part of the battle! We're all rooting for a great recovery (Lucy, Rudy, Gir and Harriet are too). Please keep us updated!

Best wishes and prayers are sent your way!
