I've always secretly thought Maribelle tasted like overpriced cake mix cake. While I feel bad she has this stress right now I'm sort of glad she'll have another bakery-plus she invited me to go to the tastings!!
All of this is a flashback to finding a new reception location 3 months before my wedding-it was a PITA but in the end I'm so glad we switched.
Re: Confession...
I agree with you, I always thought Maribelle was really overpriced!! And it's a definate PLUS that you get to go to the tastings!!
I wanted to add too that I saw she was going to meet with Tracy Bellman from Tres Belle and if she is at all interested I have to RAVE about Tracy's carrot cake. I consider myself a connoisseur for carrot cake and hers is the BEST. It's a must try if she's at all considering carrot for a layer or so.
Never had it. Guess now I never will.

FBIL LOVES carrot cake! I will tell my sister.
And MrsD, got your pm-good to know!
I gotta say a cake has to be pretty foul for me not to like it, KWIM? I've never had this Maribelle's cake but I would be willing to try it just so I could have an opinion on it
LOL, I agree. I can't said that I've ever had it. I don't know where 95% of the wedding cake I've ever eaten was from.
As far as closing, they told my sister they had deaths in the family-so I assume more than one person? No idea who or if those people were involved in running the bakery nor do I understand why they couldn't give more notice-say finish out the year & give their brides several months to find new bakeries. That said, maybe it was something so life changing they needed to move on-who knows.
As for the taste of the cake-it wasn't bad and the flavors were more gourmet than other bakeries (they had pistachio cake, for example) and they did just about any design w/o charging extra. On the other hand, my bakery only charged $3 per person and you could taste the real butter, fresh ingredients, etc, in every bite. I remember sitting in my tasting with M thinking I could make a better cake at home. Mine would have been pretty lopsided & ugly though!
