Vacuum Cleaner Help
I'm looking for a vacuum cleaner since I just got married and we're using a very old one from my mom. I have NO IDEA what to look for in a vacuum cleaner so please help. I'm not even sure what a good price point is on how much to spend. Advice? Thanks!

Things to consider:
Bagged or bagless
Upright or canister
Are allergies a concern? If so you'll want one with a HEPA filter
Do you need/want attachments (for upholstery, for example)?
Power - the max allowable watts is 12, most fall between 7-12. The highest power doesn't mean squat if the motor or air flow design is poor.
Narrow your criteria down on type then start looking as price points, features, and power options for your criteria. Amazon is great for reviews. Vacuum prices range from $40-$1500, but remember that not all lower priced vacuums are bad and not all pricey ones are good.

We have been using the Hoover Widepath Tempo
for approximately 3-4 years. It was cheap at $80 and well rated online. It has some basic attachments, a hose and a brush. It gets the job done on our 2 area rugs and 2 carpeted bedrooms. It is bagged, but I liked that more since cleaning out the bag-less compartments on other vacuums was very unpleasant do to my allergies.
