Packing Tips

Sooo....anyone have any great packing tips?  We've kind of doubled this move so we're not just packing, but we're taking the opportunity to go through things and get rid of a LOT of stuff.  But packing/moving has been very overwhelming, I think I need my head examined for deciding to voluntarily do it, lol.  So pretty much everyone has moved before...any awesome tips for moving efficiently and the packing process?  We've always just used boxes but I went and bought some big plastic tubs (Sterilite and Homz....5 so far) to use as well.  We always end up having a bunch of little stuff left at the end that we end up tossing into a random box.

Thanks for your help ladies!

Re: Packing Tips

  • I still have a few boxes in my basement that have never been unpacked from when we moved almost 3 years ago. So my tip is don't put boxes in closets or basements with the plan to unpack them later because you probably won't ever unpack them.
  • My tip is don't move lol! Please don't leave me! When I packed when J moved out I went through everything and threw out what I didn't want and put into boxes things I wasn't 100% sure of what to do with. I got a bunch of storage totes to hold rhings, it was easier to put things in storage. But really don't leave me, who am I gonna text during summer camp to ask about the cute boy that is way to young for me from their center lol.

  • I think just staying organized helps a lot. Label everything and be specific. I labeled stuff "baby clothes" and then was mad at myself for having to go through 5 boxes labeled baby clothes before I found the size I was looking for, lol.

And don't let anyone pack for you!! Help is really nice but my sister packed a ton of boxes for me and I have no idea what is them or where some of my things are now.

  • We are in the process of packing, I have been just trying to keep things organized and label them w/ what it is and where its going.  That way when people help us they know where to put it in what room. Then also have stuff either marked basement storage or attic.  We will have alot of room in basement but also attic. So anything that isn't going to be used and is more keepsake (wedding stuff etc) getting shipped right to the attic!  I don't plan on packing our clothes from closet, I figured we'll just load up my van w/ the clothes on hangers in stacks and take them over the day before the big move.  UG sooooooooo exhaused!

  • PS when are you moving?  We got lucky and got boxes after friends of ours moved and so we are using them.  I know its hard to come across a crap ton of boxes so I feel we got lucky...  We move like Nov 6th then may take a few weeks to unpack.. so if you are after me and want boxes I can pass them off to you if intested in any that are still in decent shape.. let me know...
