Hey ladies, I need your suggestions. My best friend is coming up the first week of November and staying for a week for her 30th birthday. I would like to make it special but have to watch my funds, as does she since most of her money went to the plane ticket.
So far I am able to treat her to a Broadway show (maybe two) because I get a discount for working in theatre. I was also thinking of taking her to Bryant park for ice skating if she's up for it. I know Rockefeller isn't cheap but it's a must for anyone who hasn't been so we're also doing that. We're also going to the Museum of Natural History and probably the Met.
What are some other suggestions? I'm not able to get out much because I'm always so busy with work that I don't know many hot spots. I'm also not much of a "touristy" person but I want to show her a good time.
Thanks in advance!
Re: where should I take my best friend?
you sound like you have a packed week already...two shows, two museums, ice skating...that's a LOT!
if you still want to fill your time, don't forget about the free stuff:
Emerald Nuts Midnight Run (4m) 1/1/12
Coogan's Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks Run (5k) 3/4/12
Colon Cancer Challenge (15k) 4/1/12
Purple Stride NYC (5k) 4/21/12
Run to Combat Autism (5k) 4/29/12
RnR Philadelphia (Half Marathon) 9/16/12
I used public transit as a much cheaper tour guide. You could take the 7 train to Flushing Meadows Park and see the unisphere. The 7 is elevated and you can see a lot of Queens.
Also the M4 bus leaves from beautiful Fort Tyron Park in Washington Heights, it goes down to the top of Central Park, down 5th ave past all the museums and stores. And it ends somewhere around the Empire St. Bldg and Macy's Penn Station. I did it a while ago with family, so double check the bus map.
Or you could walk around downtown/ Wall St., take the ferry to St. Is. and come back and then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Have a good time.
Great idea about Grimaldi's and the Brooklyn Bridge! How could I forget those!? We are definitely doing Top of the Rock. I think it's $27 now because I went at Easter with the in-laws. I think I'll introduce her to the Beer Garden here in Astoria. lol. She doesn't drink beer but they have other things and I know she'll enjoy the outdoor atmosphere... besides, she likes cold weather.
I'm not saying we'll get all this done but I'd like to have a decent list and she gets to go through it and pick the priority. She didn't get to do much last time she was here because it was a short trip. I think the hubby and I are going to treat her to dinner at Ruby Foo's too because she loved it so much last time she was here.
