Implanon Injection Birth Control

Anybody used it?

Does it hurt when they put it in? I watched a video on youtube and almost threw up...I'm sure it's just because I'm pretty queasy.

Has anybody ever gotten pregnant while using it?

How did it affect your period?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I just need to know from actual people and not just the website!

Re: Implanon Injection Birth Control

  • So I had never heard of this and had to go look it up on youtube. oh my....I couldn't watch the whole thing. And I'm not a queasy person!! Ick!
  • I was on Implanon for a little over 2 years. They put it in right in the drs office and it wasn't bad at all.  I didn't really have a period for most of the 2 years I had it but I would spot occasionally (maybe a few days every few months.)  I eventually had it taken out because I had been consistantly spotting for a few months and DH & I were going to be ttc so I wanted it out of my system.  That was last Sept and my cycles were a wacky for a few months but not too long.  I would recommend it.

  • It doesn't really hurt but it is uncomfortable. They give you a local anesthesia and it just feels like a few bee stings. That numbs the area so you don't feel pain. You do however feel some pulling and pushing as they are injecting in the rod. It does not hurt but it's definitely not enjoyable. I felt a little dizzy and sick to my stomach ( I wouldn't advise watching the process if you're easily grossed out) It's a little sore after for a couple days and your arm will bruise up but then you're good for a few years!

  • I just got it last week so I can't say much yet. The only thing I can tell you is that it was a painless process. They numb you, you feel a bit of tugging and thats about it. I decided it was probably not a good idea to watch because I get quesy just watching myself get a shot. The soreness afterwards isn't so great but the fact that I don't have to worry about bc for 3 years is worth it.
  • I just got it put in on Monday (Oct. 4) and I still kind of feel a little pressure (it's hard to describe the feeling)...I'm hoping that goes away soon. I do usually have long periods and started on Monday and today I'm done! So that was a real relief. I'm counting on the short or no show periods because I'm going on a cruise in the beginning of December (right around my monthly time). Anyways, so far so good and I had no bruising. Right after I got that put in, I got the flu shot in my other arm....so yeah, that was a fun process. But seriously, the insertion is NO big deal. You barely feel the numbing needle poke you, but then the numbing stuff going in does sting for a few seconds...after a few moments, they will use another needle to insert it and your good! I can't wait to see what the next 3 years will be like! Especially since we do not plan on having any kids. Oh, and my pds have never been normal so I'm not worried about that part.

  • Hello.  I have Implanon.  I got in last year and I am so used to it now... It didn't make me crazy like the depo shot, and I don't have to remember pills, and it's not something in my private parts, so to me, it's the best of the options I know.  Periods are light and really unpredictable which is the biggest downside for me.  But the DR said that it's different for everyone.  Yours could completely go away... Anyway it's weird cuz it's not noticable, but if you look at your pipes in the mirror, it looks a little freaky... I'm proud of my "Impy" though.  I tell people about it all the time and recommend it.  No babies! Yay!Party!!!
