Road trip tunes! (and eats)

I'm going to visit my cousin next weekend and she lives in a city about 6 hours from here. I am going by myself as far as I know because the Mr has to work. I want to go before it snows (which could be practically any time here now and she lives north). What tunes do you have to have to pass the time on a road trip and what are some healthy snack ideas?

Re: Road trip tunes! (and eats)

  • I love classic rock while driving- Bruce Sprinsteen, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, etc... perfect driving music IMO.

As far as healthy snacks, I usually bring fruit if it's not too long of trip, and granola bars, and probably a few cookies for a treat Stick out tongue

    Have fun!!

  • I'm old....songs I can sing along with.  Specifically, I have a couple hundred 4 part acapella songs on my ipod, plus some show tunes, Motown, country (especially Rascall Flatts, Winona Judd, Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood), and old school rock stuff (Journey, Uriah Heep, Kansas).

Snacks?  Grapes, chips, yogurt covered pretzels.

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • DH and I do the 9-10 hour trip to my parents house twice a year but we've gotten SO lazy about preparing! We have all our favorite places to stop and snack hits so I'm having to wrack my brain.

We have Sirius radio, which is awesome! Before we had it, though, we generally tried to do a mix of music (we listen mostly to the pop-punk/emo/indie that was popular when we were in college) and then have some talk-radio type options (we like to download episodes of This American Life and Wait Wait don't tell me from National Public Radio) because after awhile we get tired of music. Now we have talk radio and comedy radio options on the Sirius that get us through.

Snack-wise, if you'll be driving when you'll be at all tired, bring something crunchy to keep yourself awake. My mom like carrots and celery, pretzels work too. I always like to have twizzlers for some reason. And since you can, Aero bars/Smarties because they are my favorites and hard to find in the States! My mom gets them for me whenever she goes to Canada to visit our family.

    Twizzlers are a road-trip MUST!
