So, that tapas party that I'm going to next weekend...
I was talking to the hostess last night, and she thinks she's going to have an informal competition for who brings the best tapas. She wasn't going to tell anyone (but she told me).
I can be rediculously competitive, especially when it comes to my food (you should not be surprised by this). I went to an appetizer party/competition a few years ago. I came in second. I made spanikopita, and I lost to these people who made crab cakes shaped like little hearts. I'm still a little bitter, but that was back in the days before I was obsessed with baking.
I'm making empanadas (little ones). I was thinking two kinds: chorizo and potato (more traditional) and chocolate banana (because it sounded too good to pass up. The biggest reason I'm making these is because I have to work the day of the party, so I can make them in advance, freeze them, and then bake them off right before I leave.

Also, your friends are way cooler than mine. I don't know anyone that would throw a tapas party, let alone make it a secret competition.
