When I was younger, my mom used to make an awesome cake. It was a bundt cake with chocolate drizzle on top and in the center all through the cake was a fudgey yumminess.
I asked her about it once a few years ago and she said they stopped making it. But I still wanted one!
So I hit up Google and thought I found it! Sadly, no. Apparently, someone made a VERSION of it and that's the recipe Pillsbury is going with. The original recipe from a bake-off in 1966 used the ingredient that has been axed.
On their site, people have made this cake and complained that it is NOT the original cake. This one is almost like a brownie in the center. And that is NOT the old cake.
Here's the recipe for the "new" version.
What you see in the pic? It seems that's the original cake, not what comes from this recipe. Shame on them!!
I searched around the webz and found out that the center of the original was a "frosting mix" that Pillsbury discontinued. Lovely.
The center was almost like pudding, but not quite. It was fudgey, not didn't run out when you cut the cake.
I saw a LOT of reviews saying that the persons mom used to make this cake and they would LOVE to be able to make the original. And I am one of those people.
Srsly. Mom would give up her healthy eating for a few days if I could somehow make that original cake.
P.S. My mom never made it with any kind of pecan or nut. Ew.
Re: Screw you, Pillsbury!
Major bummer. I get so sad and frustrated when I can't find a particular recipe that I want. Case in point: I lost the best brownie recipe ever about a year and a half ago and I'm still bummed out that I'll never make those perfectly fudgy wonderful brownies again.
Fingers crossed someone magically finds it!
that sucks
I understand your pain...
My grandma and mom used to make this candy called "cherry mash". But they discontinued the cherry frosting stuff you need for the center. Nothing else that is out now tastes the same

Why is it that they discontinue all of the good stuff? Dont they realize that this stuff is from our childhood and they are tearing away pieces of our childhood away from us? ok, maybe a little dramatic but seriously it sux.
Have you thought about maybe another company that might make something similar? Im trying to think.
I know exactly what you mean. I don't think it's too dramatic. Some stuff just sticks with us.
Sadly, anytime I really like something, they stop making it. Always.
It's almost here! Weeeeeeee!
