Stupid housekeeper (long)

So, last night Dave asked me if I wanted to spend an extra night at the hotel.  We have plans to go to the Keg for dinner tonight and he said that instead of driving home late at night, we could just stay here for an extra night and leave tomorrow morning (umm...have I mentioned how much I love him?)  Obviously I say yes, because I am thoroughly enjoying everything about being here.

So the housekeeper knocked on the door for the first time at 8 AM  to clean the room.  I was still asleep, so I told her to come back later.  She just came back now.  When I went to open the door, Stella followed me.  This is the exchange between myself and housekeeper:

H: Umm, are you allowed to have a dog here??

M: ...   Yes.

H: Really??

M:  Yes Indifferent

Then she says "Is there a better time for me to come back?"  Meaning...she doesn't want to clean the room while I'm in here.  I say no, I'll be here all day, because it is Thanksgiving and nothing is open.  (Malls, the gym, hell even the Starbucks across the road is closed, and I didn't think they EVER closed...literally, there is nothing to do except hang out here and go to the hotel pool later, but I'm waiting for Dave to get back to do that because he is at a hockey game right now)

So she says "You're really not planning on leaving at any point? I can come back later"

M: Um, no.  But that's fine....you can come in and clean anyway, I'll stay out of your way.

H: Angry

So she proceedes to not speak ONE more word to me, as she is clearly pissed that I am not leaving her to clean in peace?  I dunno, I'm literally just sitting here at the computer desk in the little office doing some online shopping, and she is not even in the same room as me.  I can tell she's mad as she is huffing and doing everything really fast and furious.

So, she has cleaned the bathrooms and bedroom and living room.  The only thing left to do is vacuum.  And there is dog hair everywhere, so vacuuming would be great.  But she asks me if she needs to vacuum.  Clearly, she does.  But I obviously say no, because she doesn't want to and is basically making that perfectly clear.  And then she tries to take my wine glass (MINE, I BOUGHT IT) and I'm like "Oh, that is mine" and she's like "I thought you were done with it" and I said, "Well, I am done with it.  But I'm planning on taking it home with me, as it is mine and doesn't belong to the hotel"  She put it down on the table and just walked out of the room.

I can't be the only one who is still in the room when she needs to clean it, right?

  • Haha I can see how it would be awkward for her, but still, that's just rude to get mad at you for not wanting to leave! But at least you were there so she didn't steal your wine glass!! That would have been pretty terrible.

  • Wow...I agree, maybe it was awkward for her to clean in front of a hotel guest, but come on. Did she really want to inconvenience you and make you leave the room?! Ugh people...

  • Oh and paws off the wine glass!! Doesn't she know you need that for your hot tubbing nesting evenings?!

  • Stupid woman! How rude. I always bring a wine glass with me when we travel so that I don't have to try to get one from the hotel. LOL Is that bad? I always fear them trying to take it.
  • I think what really colored my attitude towards her was her greeting towards Stella when I first opened the door.  Umm, my dog is my BABY, and she is literally the cutest, sweetest dog in the world.  Everyone loves her.

So when the first words out of her mouth are "Are you allowed to have a dog here??"  and I'm thinking "Um, YOU work here...you would think you would know the dog policy!"

    Ugh.

And no kidding on the wine glass front.  I refuse to drink out of any glass in a hotel room because I watched one of those expose things on the news a few years ago that used hidden cameras to show that the housekeepers just clean the glasses in the bathrooms with windex and a swipe from a dirty rag.  I know that's not universal but it skeeved me out so bad I can't stomach the thought of drinking out of one of those glasses, so I bring my own.

Yeah, they've shown those hidden camera shows in some of THE most high class hotels in the States, too.  It's disgusting.

  • Gross to the glass "cleaning"....

Maybe she's just pissy because she's working and cleaning people's rooms on Thanksgiving when she'd rather be off / with her family. But if she does have to be at work it's not okay to take that out on guests who are paying to be there.  Grrr....

  • Wow that was extremely rude! You would think that since she works there she would know that they allow dogs. Your room can't be the first she's cleaned that a dog was in.

  • Oh My GOD you guys.  I just went into the "fancy" bathroom, and SHE DIDN'T CLEAN IT!!  The dirty towels are still on the floor, she didn't replenish the toiletries, there was a glob of toothpaste in the sink, and the worst part of all: Dave had a nose bleed last night and in my haste I had grabbed a facecloth to clean him up...and it was still lying on the counter!!!  I KNOW she went in there because I watched her, but she obviously walked in and walked right back out without touching anything!!

I am going to be speaking to the front desk about this.

  • Freak. Her, not you!

I know what you mean about her reaction to Stella pissing you off. My cat is my baby, and he is the sweetest, most fun little cat ever. Everyone loves him... except my MIL. He was so sweet to her the one time she was at our place, and she just stared at him in thinly-veiled disgust the whole time.

  • She didn't empty *any* of the garbages either.  So basically, she came in, made the bed, and left.  Yet she was in here for 15 minutes.
