Fun fact: Pennsylvania has the second-oldest population in the US, younger than only Florida. What does this mean for me? It means that I had to find my husband on the internet because there are no young people anywhere and that everyone everywhere you go is about a hundred years old.
I love old people, but honestly, it gets more and more dangerous to drive here every day because they will pull out in front of you or will randomly stop in the middle of a highway. And this morning I spent TWO HOURS at the optometrist's office because I was behind about half a dozen ancient people who can't grasp that their glasses frames are metal but the lenses are plastic.
Everyone working in the office was at least 60 and hard of hearing.
The best part was that I had never been to this doctor before and that he couldn't tell exactly what kind of contact lenses I have (I have soft ones that last me a couple of years). He said that I had to get the specs from my previous guy and phone the details in so they can order new ones for me. Okay. No big deal, right? Well, the receptionist at my old optometrist's was old, pissy, and just refused to give me the information over the phone. She said that my new doctor could call about it or that they would fax it over. Argh.
If all of the old ladies can communicate with each other and get things straightened out, though, I should be getting new contacts and new glasses, and the glasses are really cute. ![]()
Re: Sometimes living here drives me crazy
They say patience is a virtue, but I'm with you Kelly, mine would wear very thin under your circumstances.
I wear Acuvue Advanced. They're good for two weeks, but because I wear glasses about half the time, I can get 3-4 weeks out of each pair. I love my glasses and use them as a fashion accessory. This year, I got my exam and new glasses in January and I can already tell that my eyes are changing. They have been the same for over 10 years now. This is my age sneaking up on me. Here's what's changed. I used to be able to lie in bed with my glasses on and read our board on my iphone with no problem. Now if I want to read it with my glasses on, I have to hold it away from my face - like kind of far - because I can't focus when it's too close. If I take my glasses off, I can focus on up-close stuff with no problem. Ugh...I think I'm going to have to get bifocals next time!
