Why Toddlers Are Awesome, #429

Making a short grocery list and mention out loud that I'm going to flip through my favorite cookbook to find a recipe for tonight.

Matt: Hey mommy, let's look at recipes together.

I pull out his Sesame Street cookbook for him.

Me: Ok, see if you can find something for dinner tonight.

::flip turn flip::

Matt: Oooooooo, this looks good! ::pointing at a picture:: Let's have cookies for dinner!

Re: Why Toddlers Are Awesome, #429

  • i miss you and your kid.
  • I know fallin - "hey, shoulda been more specific mom. come on now, let's go get some cookies."
    image Guess who?
  • Ha!  That's really cute!  My kind of kid.

  • Cookies are usually more of a breakfast food in my house but I like the way he thinks!

I hope you are making him those cookies for dessert.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • It's nice to see you haven't ruined him forever by feeding him healthy crap.  Cookies for dinner for everyone!

I cannot talk Connor into eating ice cream if I try.  Seriously.  Won't touch it.  Freak.

  • I'm sure I should be ashamed of this, but Lila ate ice cream for the first time LONG before she even turned one.   Andy's dad was an ice cream lover (diabetic, yet used to sneak out of the house for a cone) and he used to feed it to her.   It's one of my favourite memories of him.

That being said, MY dad tried to giver her ginger ale this weekend and was stunned when I yelled NOSTOPYOUCAN"TGIVEHERPOP!!!!!!!!!! just as the bottle was touching her lips.  Probably a slight overreaction on my part

  • we have the same kid, Wendy.
Alex hates cake and ice cream... I'm pretty sure they switched him out at birth. He was created of cake - I don't understand how that happens.

FBM can sub in any time he wants. What's his going rate for personal chef? Cookies sound perfect right now.

  • Miles had ice cream this weekend.  He enjoyed it.  He won't eat most other foods, but ice cream apparently works.

  • B goes crazy for icecream. Especially mint chocolate chip.

  • apparently ice cream is one of the four food groups according to my nephew, along with Quizno's sammies, light buttery crackers, and chicken fingers.

  • Oh, and the other thing he is doing lately that cracks me up: last week he was watching a couple of youtube videos we had just loaded of him riding his bike. At some point he clicked on another video and this started playing (I assume you have all seen it since we were the 235 millionth person to view it).

Now he goes around saying, "Charleh! Charleh bit meh! That HUHT!" He even woke up one morning and the first thing we hear over the monitor is "charleh!" ::cackle cackle giggle::

So my kid can imitate a British accent, I must be doing something right.

  • Ok, this seems the appropriate place for a couple of cute toddler stories.

Last weekend was Connor's third birthday.  No, really.  I don't know how this happens, but it's true.  He somehow got in his head that he wanted an orange bike for his birthday (aka dirtday) and asked me for one ten times per day every day for a solid month.

The night before his party he saw a picture of his cake (and I explained to him that Thomas was his birthday cake for his party the next day).  He then told me he was going to eat that Thomas and made chomping actions/sounds at the computer for the rest of the night.  At bedtime he was so wound up I told him that he had to go to sleep so that it could be tomorrow and time for his birthday party.  At 6:57 the next morning he comes RACING into my bedroom yelling "I wake up my dirtday!!!!"

He has since asked every night at bedtime if he's going to wake up on his dirtday.

Also, I took him to Seattle about a month ago and he loved 'riding in the sky in an airplane' and he informed everyone (including the pilot) how airplanes get into the sky: "They jumpin.  They jump in the sky"

Alsoalso, I told him the other day that we were getting ready to go to the gym so mommy could run and he informed me "Connor runnin' too.  I run past.  Like this!" *waving arms back and forth*   It was adorable.

I'm done now.  Sorry about all that.  I couldn't help it.

  • Wendy, we flew on an airplane and now Matt tells everyone what row we sat in. "We went in number 23." And he also remembers all the places we went to by the address or room number. "781 with the red door! 179 with the blue door!" I birthed the rain man.

Didn't he get the orange bike a few weeks ago? Or was it just last week that we were talking about bikes? Let's see some video, momma!

Awwww, man you guys make me look forward to Dimi talking.

    Cute stories:

Dimi is now pointing to the bathroom and saying, "Baaaa" when he wants a bath. Bug is more than happy to oblige.

Last night he and Bug were playing together (she stacks the blocks, he knocks them over) when I told her it was time for her to do her laundry. Dimi followed her to her room. The next thing I know he's following after her carrying two of her shirts with a big grin on his face. He loooves helping his sissy.

He also likes cleaning up and will throw his blocks in the bin and then clap for himself.

"The meek shall inherit the earth" isn't about children. It's about deer. We're all going to get messed the fuckup by a bunch of cloned super-deer.- samfish2bcrab

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
  • Um, I guess it was a couple of weekends ago?  I've been out of town for a week or so, but his actual birthday was Oct 3rd.

Oh, hey.  I'm going to DD the link since I kind of say our last name in the video.  It'll be on facebook.

  • I love all these cute stories and want more!  I'll also take stories of them being bad and evil.  I need them to help me prepare and stay grounded.

Yesterday we left the park immediately and forcibly when he started to throw a fit. Does that help?

  • We are currently in hour two of naptime refusal. So far I have cried twice and Will has cried once. That means I'm winning, right?

Speaking of ice cream, that's what I'll be eating for lunch, as soon as my little demon child goes to bed.

    image

  • No nap means earlier bedtime right?  Yeah.  That's it.
    image
  • Well, if it's going to take him 3 hours to go to bed tonight, yes. We'll start bedtime at like, 5:30, then he'll be out by 8:30, right?

    image

  • Noisy, I am counting on you! Show me this can be done! Common!
    image Guess who?
  • I think he's finally asleep. I WIN! I WIN! Now Evie has tired of her bouncy seat and I need to like, play with her or something. These children. SO demanding. When do I get my ice cream?!
