cleaning keurig coffee machines

I was just wondering how often I should be cleaning the water holder of my keurig machine. I just got it but I accidentally threw out the instructions page. Do you just rinse it or should I use soap water or should I run water/vinegar solution through the machine? This is soooo complicated in comparison to a regular coffee machine!

Re: cleaning keurig coffee machines

  • to you just mean the bin that you fill with water?  nothing ever goes in that except water, so i usually just dump the excess water out and let it dry, but then i'll give it a good washing every once in a while.

  • Yes, I mean the  bin that holds the water. Okay, so it's not something I need to be worried about cleaning regularly then? Can just a rinse do?

  • I don't have one, but bought one for my MIL.  Last time I used it, I noticed some build up where you put in the K-cup, and underneath where the coffee comes out.  I also found dried up coffee under the little metal tray you put the cup on.  I pulled out the tray and washed it with soap and water and wiped down the K-cup area with a clean wet cloth.  Not sure if that's the best way, but it was the approach I took.

  • You are suppose to clean out the whole thing with vinegar every once in a while.. here is a link to their recommended process.  I have only done it 2x in 2 years because it is a lot of work...

yes, that part is fine to not get crazy about because it's only clean water in there.  i mean, i wouldn't let the water just sit in there for days on end, but if you dump it after using it and let it dry out before putting it back, that's fine.
