How often...

do you clean? I mean really, really clean? I tidy daily-- wiping down surfaces, organizing mail, spot cleaning, etc.  But how often do you wash baseboards, walls, clean under the stove, etc?

I feel like we clean a lot, but I never feel done! It's driving me crazy! Maybe that's just what happens when you buy a house that's over a hundred years old? bah.

Re: How often...

  • Not often at all... haha. I was actually thinking about doing some deep cleaning this week! I'm hosting girls night on Thursday and am having a friend over on Saturday so I'll pretend I'm a real adult who has a clean house all the time.

  • I clean once a week which includes vacuuming, wiping up the kitchen (stove, fridge, sink counters, microwave), whole bathroom, wet swiftering the floors and maybe dusting (if i'm in the mood).

As for moving furniture, cleaning under the stove that kinda thing- ehhhh a couple times a year.....is that bad?    I feel like my house is very clean.

  • The basics get done every week. The other stuff every couple months! Its dusty in vegas its crazy!!!
  • DH doesn't like when things are dirty, so he will clean the stove top, bathroom, etc once a week if I don't get to them first. I don't think I've cleaned under the stove since we bought the house haha

ditto the under the stove, fridge! LOL they aren't easy to move!!!

  • I like to clean the house once a week.  I vacuum every few days (daily during shedding season) and straighten up daily (DH is a SLOB).  DH helps when given specific chores but I try to save my big cleaning for when he is at work.  Otherwise he follows me around like a puppy "trying" to help but just creating more work.  I clean under furniture every few months or when I have to retrieve a dog toy and realize how nasty it is under the couches, LOL!
  • Okay, wheew! I feel much better! haha

My house is just so old and I love the way it looks, but it's not... I don't know how to explain it.... it's not sealed? Like, there's space between everything-- the fridge and the cabinets, the sink and the wall, there's even space between the floor molding and the walls! Everything gets stuck in there!

I swear, I love the character... but our next house is going to be brand new! haha

When I move out, so it's not deducted from my security deposit.

    That's really about it.

  • Bah - I feel like I clean all the time but our house always looks like a tornado ran through it.  It's only the 2 of us and my DH honestly isn't here very much, but I'm still a little embarrassed to admit that I usually only clean toilets/bathroom countertops every 2 weeks!! The bathrooms are really my main priority and I TRY to do them every weekend but sometimes I have other things to do.  I do the kitchen (inside the microwave, scrub things, clorox wipe the trashcan lid, etc) occasionally and I just did it last weekend actually.  I vacuum once a week or every two weeks. I dust whenever I feel like it, which is like once a month or if we're having people over.  We have dark furniture so it accumulates very quickly and our house seems particularly dusty so if I wanted all the surfaces to be "clean" all the time, I'd just go crazy.

Surprisingly enough, we've actually cleaned under the stove AND fridge AND couches AND kind-sized bed (and I've only lived here for 1 year).   The stove and fridge were because we had a spill or some hose wasn't connected properly or something, so we just went ahead and did under the fridge too.  The couches - we've done those about 3 times.  Once when we bought a rug, once when we bought night stands, and then last night randomly because DH was in a mood?? Under the bed was because our ceiling was leaking onto our bed so DH had to move the whole mattress off anyway :)

  • We do our thorough clean every weekend. It only takes us about an hour each time since we keep up with it. :)

  • I clean every day.  Bathrooms, kitchens, living room get done daily.  Everything else (yes, baseboards included, I have no idea why but I literally do my baseboards all.the.time. because dirty baseboards sick me out) get done every week.

But I'm a clean freak, this is not new information for all of you.

  • We clean every other week.  Sometimes it gets up to three weeks though if we go out of town for the weekend or things like that.  The shower bathroom sinks/counters, and kitchen counter often get done more frequently though.  And sometimes we will dust and vacuum in between full cleanings if we need to.  Baseboards and blinds get cleaned whenever they look dirty.  We never clean under the refrigerator and stove because we live in an apartment and I doubt they'll check when we move out.  Plus our security deposit was only $99 and we plan to never see it again.

  • We have a housekeeper that comes every other week. In between weeks I dust, and wipe down the bathrooms. Everyday I tidy up, clean the kitchen. Every couple days I vacuum (bc I have 2 60lb dogs).

  • I started off clean cleaning every week but I've been slacking so its been up to two weeks lately. Thats sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms, kitchen, etc. I straighten up during the week, but I can clean our entire house from top to bottom in 2 hours so I save that for Saturday mornings. I really need to get the vacuum out tonight, I saw some dog hair last night in the living room but didn't get to it. I like cleaning when HH is out of the house to, its just easier when he isn't in my way lol. He'll be hunting this weekend though so I'll have the house to myself on Saturday.

  • We also have a housekeeper who comes every other week to do a "deep clean."   In between that time, we keep up with needed maintenance - dusting, wiping down stove, counters, etc.

  • I am officially the worst housekeeper on this board. LOL

  • We do basic spot cleaning daily.  I vacuum the furniture daily, because I hate pet hair.  Since we don't have carpet, it bunches up and sometimes a big clump will work its way out from under the furniture and Adam will start yelling "WHEN DID WE GET ANOTHER KITTEN?!?!?!?!"  It's hilarious.  But we try to do a deep cleaning once a week, or every other week.  I have never cleaned behind the fridge or under the stove since we moved in.  I try to get the vacuum hose under there when I clean, but that doesn't really count.
