Mesa Grill

We will be heading to NYC next week and DH wants to go to Mesa Grill. I have read that it isn't that great and only tourists go there. Do you find that to be true?  If you do, do you have some other recomendations? Doesn't have to be a celebrity chef, but that probably wouldn't hurt. We are tourists after all. :-)

I think DH just likes that it is Bobby Flay, but if it isn't worth it, I would rather go elsewhere.  We can't do seafood (DH is allergic).  I know there are many many options in NYC, which is why we are having a hard time deciding. TIA!

Re: Mesa Grill

  • I've been there a few times and the food is very good. There are definitely tourists, but I'm a native and I've seen other locals there too. :)

What kind of food are you looking for, and in what area?

  • That's good to hear.  DH loves steak. Really, we are open to trying most food, except seafood.  We don't have a particular area in mind because we will be all over the place the 4 days we are there.  We plan to eat a lot! Food in NYC just tastes better. :-)

  • They have an awesome peppercorn steak there, and the pork medallions were so good.

For steak our favorites are BLT Prime, The Palm, or Wolfgang's. Definitely make reservations if you can! Oooh and Gramercy Tavern is probably our #1 of all time, it's such an incredible experience.

    Hope that helps!!

  • I love Mesa Grill.  It is one of my favorite restaurants.  There are tourists there but there are also a ton of locals.  Brunch and Dinner are awesome!

If you want steak, try Old Homestead or Peter's Luger's in Brooklyn.

  • The one time I went with a group of people neither H nor I were impressed.  My dish was too sweet and kind of bland.  I do remember, though, them have an excellent selection of wines.
  • We have been to Mesa Grill in NYC.  We liked it but it is not our favorite Bobby Flay restaurant.  We really loved Bar Americain.  I am hoping to go back there for my birthday.  I would highly recommend going there.  I also agree that there is both tourist and locals.  We went to Bar Americain during the week and there were no tourists.
